get crafty

Farewell to Getcrafty

For the last ten years, getcrafty has been on my mind. First it was just an inkling to create a punk rock version of Martha Stewart Living. Then with the help of many, many people along the way, the site emerged, and the community started up. There were great joys and happiness and a book (a book!) was created. And over the years the little web site slowly became what it is today -- a crazy-big, exuberant, written-about, impactful, joyous, online ďspaceĒ which runs and exists with an identity all its own. During this time, a lot has changed for me. I went from being a crafty lady with a job as an Internet producer with evenings and weekends free, to a working writer and mother of two with uncombed hair and excess stomach weight. Suffice to say Iím tired.

After selling getcrafty.com last spring to the Canadian-based Point of Impact, I thought limiting my involvement to editorial duties would allow me something I needed. Peace, less stress, more creative freedom Ė all the usual suspects. After trying it out for a few months, Iíve found that itís no enough; I need to hang up the proverbial glue gun. So Iím handing over the editorial ropes to Point of Impact, to do as they please.

Iíll still post now and again to my blog and visit the boards, but Iím no longer the go-to gal.

The inspiration and thoughtfulness that I have experienced from you all has been significant. I thank you for all youíve given me.

Jean

Jean,
I was really surprised to see this post! I haven's been on here for so long (many problems with illness) and I now log on and see your saying good bye?

You were the first person I encountered on getcrafty and I so admired you and how much you contributed!

I've read your book (yes Jean I did buy it) I sure did try to win in in the contest you held (smile)

I will miss all of your wisdom and great insight....

Enjoy your babies and spend the time you need on you because it goes by fast.

Don't be the kind of woman who looks back with regrets and a frown....

Be the woman with the smile on her face and knowing her life was well spent!

Be well and thanks again,

Joy

I have only just discovered Get Crafty earlier this year and I thank you for your idea that has bloomed into a varied and beautiful garden. I have met some incredibly crafty folk via this website that have inspired me, moved me and have made me a happier more contributing member of the village of global crafters. Thank you Jean for that and more. May the future of Get Crafty be as wondrous.

i've been a get crafty member since near the begining (although i ended up having to reregister) and you've always been a constant source of inspiration, as was glitter when it was located here.

your book is one of my favorites, and i've gotten it for nearly all ofmy friends.

thank you for making this all possible and best of luck with everything!

Jean, I've tried to write this message probably 10 times! I keep erasing it. I'm tongue-tied. I love getcrafty, thank you for it. I wish you the very best and much happiness.

Oh Jean, this is so sad.
I've made some of the best friendsI've ever had via getcrafty and it helped me through several bouts of depression. That was as well as giving me great craft ideas and always entertaining me via the boards, the book and the crafts themselves.

Thank you so much for having such a big part in making me who I am today.

thanks so much for all of what getcrafty has been and will be. i remember gushing with excitement 9 years ago (nine years?!?!?) about finding it with my neighbor, and i made my very first friends in new york through the site. today i am able to offer work to some of them for their crafty skills. i wouldn't be doing what i am today with Adorn if i'd never popped in to this site. best of luck with all of your endeavors- you deserve the best!
cheers,
linda

shoot, jean - getcrafty has changed my life. I've made so many wonderful, solid, smart girlfriends through the boards over time and even though I don't have time to post much now, the concept of getcrafty challenges me every day to make more and to consume less and to wear my feminism with pride. xo and thanks very very much.

dear Jean,
I wish you all the best in continuing to combine craftiness with motherliness. I only have one toddler, and I'm already tired! Good luck, and thank you for your fabulous and inspirational book. (My husband adores it too!)
