I guess I should give some spoiler space in case anyone who's participating in the matchbox shrine swap wants to be surprised, so here's a little Frankenstein photo of yesterday's crafty endeavour, cleaning up my craft (and makeup) shelf:
Okay, here are my shrines. I should add that this was my first shrine-making experience, and I have to say, I don't think this is the craft for me. I just didn't have enough small stuff to make it interesting, in my opinion. They were fun for a one-off project, though.
creativity: take the little rubber band and the wax paper cover off and there are a bunch of squares of paper with words on them, like writing (or crafty) prompts. I had a lot of problems with keeping the squares in the damn matchbox, but this seemed to work okay in the end, although it's a little rougher and more fragile than I'd like.
dreams: I couldn't figure out what kind of imagery to use here; this isn't quite what I was going for, but it worked well enough. the haiku is an altered version of one I was originally going to use for the "peace" shrine.
love: the cover on this one was going to be the cover for the "lucky" shrine, but I liked it with the inside of the "love" shrine better.
luck: I wanted to put a shamrock (my personal lucky symbol, even though it's a cliche) on the front, but I couldn't find my green glitter. (found it when cleaning my shelf yesterday, of course.)
peace: more haiku. I don't think it's supposed to work that way, but I just can't get away from words. the cover for this one was supposed to be the cover for the "love" shrine, but I used the red one instead. I liked this cover so much I had to use it for one, and running my fingers over the little faux crystals was soothing, like braille, so I used it here.
with found crafts, I like being able to tell what the object was originally, so I didn't do much to alter the matchbox look of the things. it was fun to work with such a small self-contained craft. they took a lot longer to make than it looks like they did, though.

Wow! It must have been challenging to work with something so small.... Where did you even find so many boxes?

I had to buy some fresh ones (they come in packs of ten or so at Wal-Mart), I definitely didn't have tiny matchboxes laying around! tweezers helped with the smallness, especially since I am a klutz and my fingers don't want to work with small things without smashing them like the Hulk.

I really like your "you're better than the others" shrine. Did you make all of them for specific people? Where did you get your wooden drawer box thing on your top shelf of your storage area? One of those would be good for some of my bead junk.

I love them!
I took a matchbook box from a bar thinking I would make a little something with it, but it is still in my craft cabinet waiting to be used...

ha! kissmyknitz, that's beautiful!
everyone in the swap made five shrines (one for each theme), then sent them to the coordinator, who's going to mix them all up and send one of each theme (from different people) to each participant. so they're just generic.
wooden drawer box: IKEA, aka organization freak heaven! I think there's a thread on them in the craft forum, where people painted and decoupaged them, but mine is still unbeautified.

I actually said, "Aaaww!" outloud when I read the love one! We are the luckiest? You're better than the others? That is so cute!
