Finally finished! I think I started this over a year ago and I've been working on it on and off - the sleeves took the longest. This was a bit of an experiment and I don't know whether I'm game to wear it out in public, but I'm pleased with the result. That's my wee kitty Calliope curled up in the top of the picture and you can just make out the striped hindquarters of our other tabby Tintin in the bottom right corner.
That is SO cool! You should make and sell them (i'd buy one!!)

Thank you all so much for your enthusiastic comments! I probably will just wear it around the house for the time being until I get the ovaries to wear it out ;) I'm planning to make more, but I think the body needs a bit of work - it's not terribly figure-flattering for me with just the granny squares as it is, I think I might crochet a strip gusset down the sides for a bit of extra room, and I'm not too sure about the kangaroo pocket on the front. Ideally I'd like to make some in toning colours, but there's an awful lot of work involved so I'll probably have to finish some of the other projects I've got on the go first.
sajata-e: I haven't seen the "Fresh Fruit" book, but I saw the exhibition of Shoichi Aoki's photographs and found it totally inspiring - I love the mix of colours, styles and genres that those kids put together, just amazing!
