Q: I have become interested in making some jewelry. Can anyone suggest a good, reasonably priced place in Albuquerque where I might find some?

A: I've had really good luck with Southwest America on Wyoming, near Constitution. For clear glass beads, try Thunderbird Supply on Menaul, west of Carlisle. In Santa Fe, hit the Sioux Trading Post on Cerrillos, between IAIA and the School for the Deaf, and BeadWeaver on Paseo de Peralta. I do mostly Indian-style beadwork. For jewelry, try the Beadweaver folks in Santa Fe and Southwest America in ABQ. There's also a great bead store in the 5-Point Shopping Center at Girard and Central, and there's an annual bead show in April. Also, Judge Joanne Birge in Metro Court might be able to give you a hand. She does a lot with this stuff, and might enjoy having her mind taken off the pressures of public life.
