Amulet purses and strap length
Q: I have managed to make four amulet purses (2 by the loom and 2 by peyote), but I can't figure out how long I am supposed to make the straps. Are they actually for wearing around your neck like a necklace, or are they supposed to strap around your shoulder and neck like a purse, in which case the strap needs to be much longer. The purses I made are small, 1 1/2 " to 2 1/2" wide. The straps I made go around the neck and hang about mid-chest or higher.
A: I have made varying lengths of straps. I made a "pouch" for my son who definately was not going to wear it around his neck so the strap is long enough to sling over his shoulder,(this bag was about 4"x5"). I think mid chest is a good length but it's really up to the wearer. I live near Columbus, Ohio. I'm sure there are specialty shops out there, but I can't seem to find any. I make the straps for the bags between 18 and 24 inches long. Whatever length that slips easily over the head and rests the bag in a comfortable spot because yes, they are designed to be worn.
