Fake Vs. Real 'Lapis Lazuli'.
Q: Having acquired some 'Lapis Lazuli' chips as a gift. I am curious as to how I can tell if they are real or dyed.
A: A bad dye job will come off in hot (not necessarily boiling) water. A good dye job won't. Real Lapis has little flecks of gold in in (pyrite - fools gold). If yours has lots of white and just a few gold flecks, it is real but low quality (most likely for stuff they made into chips). If it is very uniform, with no white or gold - be suspicious - it's either of INCREDIBLE quality - or it's fake.
