Pearl Knotting.
Q: I'd like to learn pearl knotting, which I know can be done with pearls and other beads, but I don't know where to start. Other than taking local classes, are there any online websites or books that are good at describing how to learn this?
A: I can recommend a great book and video specifically for pearl knotting: 'Pearl And Beadstringing With Henrietta'. The book has very clear illustrations, and also provides a wealth of information on all kinds of beadwork - making earrings, bracelets, turning a brooch into a pendant, making tassels, etc. It also has a few patterns for projects using gemstones, pearls, and crystals. 'Henrietta Verchick' is the author of the book, and she has a video of the same name in which she demonstrates the art of pearl knotting. It's very easy to follow. You can call 'Henrietta' herself, to order the book or video, or get it from your local book store. I don't know where you live, but in the Philadelphia area, there is a 'Lapidary Society' that teaches all sorts of 'Lapidary' arts including beading, which starts with knotting. All the teachers are volunteers, and give more than freely, their time and effort. Classes start Sept. 28, and beading starts on Tues. from 7:30 to 9:30. The two women who teach this class start out with knotting, and are extremely patient and both have businesses connected with beads. This organization is truly one of a kind, and if you want more information, E-mail me and I'll give it to you.
