What is the name of this book?

Hopefully some of the librarians here can help me. I'm looking for a young adult fiction book that I read in the 6th grade. It was about a teenaged girl who lived in a small rural town. Something has destroyed the rest of the world (not sure if they ever say what) and she is living by herself, surviving with what she can find in her house and the general store. A man shows up in some sort of suit that protects him from radioactivity...i think he is injured and she nurses him back to health. Her little corner of the world seems to be the only one that has survived. I have no idea on the author, bit the cover art featured a girl with binoculars in front of her face. That's pretty much all I can remember. Does anyone know what this book is?

"Z for Zachary"? Something like that? I've never read it, but I've seen the cover.
    It sounds good.

    I looked it up. It's Z for Zachariah, by Robert C. O'Brien.
