I Like Gabriel Garcia Marquez especially "Love in the time of Cholera" and "100 years of Solitude". Worth a read!

yay, I love Terry Pratchett too, Oritami!
You should really give the 'Discworlds' series a try! It's a fantasy with a lot of good humor, but if you dig deeper, you'll find it very inteligent and... yes, philosophical!

I think I read Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha about 15 times since it's release, so that's definitely up there, but I have to say, the book that has stayed with me/haunted me the most was Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald. Very, very dark and so well written.
Definitely not a light read, but oh so good!
