Stopping spam before it starts.
I was looking in the people section just now, and noticed several new 'members'. They had websites that were of the spamtastic type- porn sites and such. I doubt they are here for crafting.

The moderators and the site owners have been trying to figure out the fairest and most efficient way to do this. Last I heard Demetri was going to set up a program to run daily and delete accounts that have a URL with no posts and have not logged in for the last 6 months. We don't want to punish "lurkers," but there are some red flags we can go for.

That sounds like a good idea. I just found that by looking at people's websites, I found tons of red flags- just for today, in fact. If the website isn't personal or doesn't carry a crafting theme, chances are the person is a potential spammer. I saw several for porn sites, and a few for drugs. There were also some placeholder sites- regular folk don't link to things like that.

For the most part these "fake" (for want of a better term) users don't post anything ever. I'm not sure what the point is for them to create a user account but I forgot about deleting these "fake" (yes I'm making the quote signs with my hands too!) accounts.
I'll have to look back into my emails and see what the consensus was and get some of those "fake" accounts deleted.

I'm from Poland/Italy/Germany and I just want to know how to PM.

(What on earth could that be for anyway?!?!?!)

Hahaha! The only think I can think of is that they are trying to PM spam to people. Who knows though.

Is there a way that a 'report to mod for being spam' type button can be added to threads? Then the community can flag spammers, and all y'all would have to do is delete.
Or is that to much of a pita change?

Other than the system we have now? (The two exclamation points at the top of the post)

brdgt, I think users only see one exclamation point, but mods have two for each post.
smudgy cat, next to the quote is this exclamation point:

If you click on that button on any spammy post, all the mods get an e-mail with your comments, plus a link to the thread. Then we zoom in and delete with glee.
