Yay! Great to hear from all of you.
How many of you are knitters? Would anyone be interested in checking this out: http://www.whistlestopbar.com/ ?
And what are your favorite local resources? I've been here a year & a half, and so far have only managed to locate 1 JoAnn's and then of course Michael's. What else is out there -- specifically cool, non-chain places?

I crochet but do not knit (yet), but I hear that the Whistle Stop Sunday knitting thing is pretty fun (the Whistle Stop is fun at any rate). Have you tried Yardage Town? It actually is a chain, but the atmosphere is quite un-chain-like. It features many great fabrics at very reasonable prices. There is one in La Mesa, Santee and Kearny Mesa. Also, there are two Discount Fabrics both on Adams Avenue. One is mainly upholstery fabrics, the other is more apparel-type fabric.
I am unsure where to find yarn...I usually buy it at Joanns.

I am in the Antelope Valley, but I go to San Diego often with my husband for his job. Unfortunately, I always have a 2yo in tow, so I couldn't do many crafty things. If I lived there, I would definitely check out that knitting party!
I do want to shop while I'm there next week. I do beaded jewelry, so I'm looking for good bead shops. I've been to one in Encinitas and wasn't overly impressed, but I also didn't spend a lot of time there.

hi,
a new boutique located in little italy is going to open in roughly 2 weeks. it showcases well-designed hand-crafted items (both fashion & product), yarn, and music.
i too hear sundays are fun at the whistle stop bar.

Well then! Who's down for meeting up at the Whistle Stop on August 1st? I'll be there; you can spot me by my blond & pink hair, and the lavendar afghan I'm working on.
Hope to see you there! Oh, and I will for sure be checking out that new boutique in little italy. what's the name & address?
ETA: Oh yeah & my "real" name is Sarah. Heh. That would probably help :)

I live in Fallbrook, which is an hour away from San Diego.
