    ideas for crafty party?

Hi everyone. I really want to host a crafty get together for some friends and co-workers. I'm having some trouble coming up with a suitable project...something that appeals to a variety of people and doesn't require much skill. I'm thinking magents or something easy to start with. But does anyone have any great suggestions?

    Thanks.

Any cut and paste project is good, or origami.. Baking is fun as well.

If you can do it outside in the yard, tie dye is fun for both men & women.

I did it with 3 buckets of dye: red, blue, yellow
-We used elastic bands for the ties
-Hung them on a line to dry while we had cocktails:)

My guest brought something white to die: t-shirts, underwear, slips, etc...

    Everyone had a great time!

marble magnets are easy and fun! have people bring magazines for pictures, and stock up on magnets, flat marbles, and silicon sealer.

i also like the tie dye idea:)

in addition to marble magnets you can make photo/picture magnets - cut out photos or pics from magazines. then laminate (the 3 m stuff from staples is really nice because it's stiff). and cut out, and then put thin magnet strips on the back.
they don't hold heavy papers, but it's cool for photos...you can even collage and put cut out from magazines as frams for the photos.

button magnets - especially if anyone has old one from their grammas.

also on the cooking line of things, around the holidays...do a cookie swap. combine with a craft and everyone walks away with treats to eat and give.

i always do matchbox shrines, very easy, lots of fun - clean up is a snap! and people leave with two or three creations that they can keep or swap...

    ideas for a crafty party

Something fun (I think it is anyway) is popsicle sticks and glue (maybe a quick grab type). Have everyone grab the sticks and start building. Anything goes. Maybe bowls or forts or abstract art. Throw in various color permanent markers or paint markers into the mix. The kids really like this (as do us adults)

Here are some fun ones -

    * record bowls - easy and cheap to dig up at thrift stores for a buck each. They can be spray painted and podged, or left plain.

    * Bottle Cap Magnets - bottle caps + thick round magnets + e6000

    * Junk toys magnets - similar to above but use tiny kid toys or odd game pieces

    * Altoid/CD tin designing - you could go anywhere with this.

    * neck tie belts - have you seen these in the j.crew catalog? I think it is just d-rings and a few stitches

    * handmade cards - I bought a pack of 50 blank cards off ebay for $6 once and made card sets for friends. Everyone can provide ephemera, toss it into the middle of the table and get to work.

    It is all women?

Rubber stamping cards is fun and easy.
Or, shrinky dink-ing - pretty much everyone will remember this from their childhood - you could make zipper pulls, wine charms, magnets, etc. For the zipper pulls, I just use zip ties(you can buy a box of like 500 for a few bucks at the hardware store) to attach - kids love this! Plus, I think everyone secretly loves to color!
I used to have a friend who had an easter egg coloring party every year & it was always a big hit. Of course, it's not really the time for that.
    LOVE the tie dye idea!!

I host craft parties as fundraisers and marble magnets, card making, AOL/altoid tin decorating and stuff from recycled cardboard (notebooks, CD booklets) have gone over very well with my group, which is mostly non-crafty but generous women who come together for an evening of fun!

I'll have to remember matchbox shrines for the next one!
