Breakfast, Lunch in NYC -also relatively inexpensive dinners

I am taking a trip in 2 weeks to NYC with my mother to celebrate finishing grad school. I've been to NYC 3-4 times, but she has never been.

I am looking for good, fairly inexpensive (for NYC) breakfast, lunch, and dinner ideas. We are planning one, expensive meal (leaning toward Del Posto), but other than that, I'd like good food that doesn't break the bank.

I need to eat fairly low carb for health reasons but can usually find something appropriate at any place.

We are staying near the UN, so breakfast near there if possible would be nice (though I'm not averse to traveling either by foot or subway for an unusual, fun experience). We're probably going to stay in Manhattan the whole time, as we're only there a few days.

Also looking for a good, after-theater/late dinner. We're seeing Wicked!

I've been mining Chowhound, but I know some Craftistas live in NYC and wanted your expert advice!

    Thanks all.

i don't know of any cheap places around the un. sea thai on 2nd avenue between 5th and 6th streets is good, inexpensive thai. however, i'm not the only one who thinks so, so go early (6:30 to 7pm) if you want to go there. it's generally mobbed.

also, about del posto and expensiveness:

My favorite cheap place to eat is Dojo near NYU. I used to go there all the time when I was in school. It's the kind of place you can count on to fill your belly with reasonably healthy food for very cheap. Get the salad with the carrot dressing. They're famous for the dressing. Also their brown rice is the best. I don't really like brown rice except at Dojo.

I was looking up the address for you and found this review: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/dojo02/

It's not a terribly flattering review, but I'm sticking by my recommendation.
