My daughter has always been a Barenaked Ladies fan, too. We've been known to blast the Milliion Dollar song and dance around the house. She also liked the Grateful Dead when she was younger, but now her favorites are Outkast, the Donnas, and Modest Mouse.

My lovely mother has introduced her to Zamfir. Now she grooves to the melodious pan flute while doing her homework and falling asleep. Weirdo.

Sounds like there are quite a few hip little kids around here! The girls I babysit love U2 ("Beautiful Day" is their fave, everytime we're in the car, we blast it and all sing along), Coldplay, the Shins, Abba & anything Motown (both are fun to dance around the living room to). :)

Both of my kiddies love Bob Marley.
When my daughter was little, I had to sing "Three Little Birds" for her every night before she could go to sleep.
Vincent had recently discovered zydeco. Man, he goes nuts.

My oldest (5) likes the Beatles and The Apples in Stereo (which reminds me, The Powerpuff Girls has a kick ass soundtrack)

My youngest daughter likes Bjork and Juliana Hatfield. She absolutely loves Juliana Hatfield and makes us play the CDs over and over and over.

They both love "Gimme Indie Rock" by Sebadoh.

Oh, and the "School of Rock" songs, too.

my son really likes the dinosaur song. her other ones are okay. but between the repeat playings of her songs and them getting stuck in my head all day, we have enough of that!

    thanks for the suggestions.
the current beatle fave is "magical mystery tour."
i rarely have ideas for what new cds to get (when they are actually in the budget...) and i'm currently technologically incapable of any piracy or downloading. the financial woes of a stay-at-home mom.....

Oh - I almost forgot: The Rolling Stones are good too. The first song I taught each of my daughters was "You Can't Always Get What You Want"!!!!!

I applaud Beatles, Barenaked Ladies, B-52s, They Might Be Giants. Here's a group that does both kids and grown-up music, and they're totally cool in both arenas: Trout Fishing in America.
