    Need a simple desk/table.

I've been to three furniture stores and nobody carries desks. Wtf?

I'm wanting a simple desk that basically looks like a rectangular coffee table with longer legs. No drawers (although a couple right under the top would be okay). I'm using this for my craft area, to use my sewing machine on (then put away and on the floor when i'm done) and all my other crafty stuff. I'm going to use those plastic storage drawers (or basket ones) for my storage. And also mount shelves above it.

Anyone know where I could find something like this?

Maybe an old formica kitchen table would work. My husband got one from his parents, and he uses it for his computer table. It's essentially indestructable. Maybe check at Salvation Army or Craigslist? You might find one for free, because they aren't really that attractive looking

yeah smudgy brought up a good point. Thrift stores!

I bought my first computer desk there. A nice one for 30 bucks and after several years I'm now selling it to the neighbor for 20 bucks.

check out all the thrift stores in the area, and maybe some office supply stores as well.

The only thing I've seen at office supply stores are HUGE desks, or computer desks, which aren't completely out of the question - but really a last resort because of the rolling shelf thingy.

I've been checking thrift stores, but we're a boring city and we have nothing. EVER. lol. I wish I had the energy (and time off from work) to check garage sales though. I'm probably just not patient enough.

I might just have to make my own, because I'm kind of looking for something specific (like white to match bedroom furniture) and simple design. Most of the time I don't care about what it looks like, but I've been trying to get my room together and want something that looks good :)

If you can make it to an IKEA they sell legs that you can add to any piece of wood that you can cut to the exact size you need and paint however you like.

We don't have one around here, but I'll check the website.

IKEA's one thing I was thinking of.

I have used an old hollow core door (hinges taken off) set up on two saw horses---nice and big for a cutting table!

We did almost the same thing with a 24in.x48in. piece of 3/4 plywood on two saw horses. We use it for our computer area, lots of room on top for all the essentials and lots of leg and storage room underneath. It was also very inexpensive and all of it we were able to purchase at the local hardware/diy center.
