    Costume Box Ideas...

Hi there! My daughter will be about 18 mos at Xmas, and Jai and I are building/sewing/crafting her a costume and make-believe box. So far we have some different kinds of ears and tails, a few hats, a feather boa and some random large squares of various fabrics for imagination play. Anything else we should put in this trunk?

SUch a trunk provided endless hours of entertainment when we were kids ...

Can I suggest ridiculous shoes (thrift stores), "princess" dresses, fairy wings, a black cape (superhero, vampire, witch, very useful!), a man's jacket, old flashy handbags / purses, and even some old glasses, (pop the lenses out for safeer play). And - if you can find them - old wigs (we had one that my grandma used to wear) are loads of fun!

*edited to correct "truck" to "trunk" ::blush:: oops!

How about scarves from a thrift store - those silky squares or oblongs shaped ones that are translucent or filmy. They feel good and they move well with music.

Hand puppets or socks to make them herself.

I was going to suggest silky scarves too!
I'm always on the lookout for hats of all kinds at garage sales. As long as I can wash them, I'll take them home and toss 'em in with the dress up stuff.
I once found a man's black dress bow tie at a garage sale. It ended up becoming part of a magician costume for my older son when he was a little guy. We even had a play top hat that he pulled a stuffed bunny out of!

A set of unbreakable dishes, like a picnic or tea party set.

Excellent ideas! any excuse for a trip to the thrift store! I made up a few easy-peasy skirts last night, from stash fabric...as soon as I have a worthwhile collection together, I'll post pics and update my blog!

My mom put her old, out-of-fashion dresses in ours. I loved them.

I bought some Halloween costumes when they were 75% off after the holiday.
