    Getting rid of furniture

    Hey forum friends!

Wondering, how do you guys get rid of things you don't need anymore? Somehow we ended up with a family room just chock full of different sorts of bookcases and drawers and all that-- and it seems like a waste just to toss them. Too cold for a garage sale.

    Any suggestions?

I donate it to a local thrift store or charity. Most will even pick things up.

You could post them on your local freecycle group if you don't want to sell them. Or Goodwill picks up if you call in advance.

craigslist.org. List them for a low price (or whatever you think they're worth) and stipulate that the buyer picks them up.

Post them up as to give away to any free classified list, like craigslist. Many universities also have free clasified listings.

Call local charities who may want them.

In our urban environement, if something is particularly useful, we also leave it on the street for the "Neighbourhood recycling program" (inevitably it will be gone in 20 min to an hour).

i always check with all of my friends first to see if they are in need of anything i may be getting rid of.

we just moved from oregon to florida and only brought one piece of furniture with us. (i just couldn't get rid of that heywood-wakefield table!)

well, we hooked up so many of our friends and then some! it was great!! we also took loads to the thrift stores.

I absolutely love FreeCycle... it's helped me get rid of tons of stuff, even stuff I never thought anyone would want! And, you can also make some cool and crafty friends!

i had a daybed that i needed to get rid of and it was in great condition, i need to get a smaller bed frame more suitable for our guest room so i posted it on craigslist and it was perfect because i used the money towards other things that i needed for our new house and they arranged for the pick up.

no hassle and a bit of cash too.
