Bought a house! Need Home Reference Book recommendations.

I wasn't sure if I should put this here or the Bookworm section. We just bought our first house and are looking for that all-in-one reference manual for the home. How to replace a light fixture, bathroom vanity, lay new tile, basic home skills type stuff. ANy suggestions???

I don't have a specific book but I bet you'd score at a used book store! All of the ones I have are used and old and, although still useful, extremely funny. I actually have one that is so "all areas" that it tells you how to change your lightbulbs and how color coordinate your eye make-up to your wardrobe.

    Congratulations on the new home!!!

Hey! Try this book? looks really good. It sells on Amazon for like 7.50 or so. The reviews say it covers all areas, and it is supposedly way better and cheaper than Martha Stewart's new book about taking care of a house. Maybe check it out of your library and Martha's, too! I don't know what size your house is, but Sarah Susanka's "Not So Big House" books are fun to check out of the library and get inspired! They have really neat ideas for using space. Also, notmartha.com archives from last summer have lots of home stuff that is very very cool. not so much fix something broken as create something your own in your space. bye!

I use Mary Ellen's Complete Home Reference Book. We don't own, but try to take care of little things ourselves in our rental and it's been very helpful.
