Well, you could always get the Blackspot Sneakers, I guess...They're environmentally friendly and definitely uncommon. And the workers who make them have good working conditions and reasonable salaries.

lauren for funky shoes, walk down 8th street between ave. of americas and astor place, and then down university down to about houston st. it's a quick walk with a huge concentration of shoe stores.

    seconding the zappo's vote.

right now i'm digging on PF Flyers lowtops.

Printed slip on Vans! There's a limited edition pair with baby elephants printed on them that I'm just about to order online.

I recently picked up a pair of sweet Nike Air Force 1 in butter at Clientele on Lafayette (they carry them too at Michael K for much cheaper), although the pink ones are cool too.

i think these socially conscious sneakers are far cooler than any sweatshop-made trendsetters i've seen.

found these awesome skull vans online (im obsessed with skulls)...i loved the elephant ones too but couldnt find a picture to post

also these lacoste shoes in ShoeMania on 14th in the city

    except green straps, not pink

and i found these AMAZING adidas shoes at shoemania...they were essentially ballet slippers with tread. i didnt get them yet but i think as a veteran dancer i will get them as soon as i have $54 more dollars. i havent been able to find them anywhere online, so i think it must be just in that one store, or the fact that when theyre not on a foot they curl up like real ballet slippers and are not that aesthetically pleasing for advertising. for those of you who dont dance, if you find these shoes try them on. they are the most comfortable thing since bare feet.

    thanks everyone :]

I used to like to use "painters" markers on my shoes. I had a pair of maryjanes that I did a sun on the one and a moon on the other. I had lots of people staring at them, occasionally someone would say they were cool.
I love vintage clothing and accesories so I shop ebay for that stuff. Maybe you can find a kick ass pair of sneaks on there for probably a lot less you'll pay for a pair of name brands. And the best part is you'll be really unique!
