Can anyone out there recommend an "urban balcony gardening" book? I would love to have some ideas about what I could grow in pots on my balcony, but I've had a helluva time finding one that looks good ...

yes! a balcony gardening book would be fabulous! i really want to grow some herbs this year on my deck, and i would love a tomato plant, but i'm just not sure how that would happen, or frankly, if it's worth all that trouble for just a handful of tomatos.

You Grow Girl has quite a bit of info on container gardening (like, I feel confident I could do it myself after reading the book, even though I am planning on a traditional garden), the website probably has a lot of info on it too, I'm thinking.

I'm sure someone knows of a good book that's just container gardening, but if not, I really think YGG covers everything you'd need.

(I'm ordering seeds this week -- squee!, etc.)

So exciting...I started my seeds last night! I can't wait. Last year was my first year having a garden in Iowa (Calif transplant) a whole new experence. My husband and daughter made me raised beds and I don't know how I ever lived with out them. Thanks for the book sugestions my local library will get some of my business tonight.

Also have you heard of Jerry Baker? http://www.jerrybaker.com/. He has a Garden Gab area that I find helpful with problems. He has great natural tonics that can be made with items found in most homes. and You Grow Girl is "Hot" (sorry I had to say it).

Now I must get my daughter to teach me how to work the digital camera so i can post pictures of my plot.

Do you all know about You Grow Girl? They have great forums - lots of nice people who know what they are doing who are good at explaining things to newbies like me.
