Stupid Housekeeping Question Re: Duvet Covers

I was browsing today for a new comforter for our bed & found my ideal in a duvet cover set. Can I use a duvet cover on our current comforter?

    I guess I wasn't paying enough attention during Martha's shows. ;)

    Thanks!

Of course you can! It will make your life so much easier, too, since you can just take it off to wash it, instead of washing the whole giant comforter. Very handy for pet owners.

OK, cool. See, I told you it was a dumb question. *blush*

Good point about the pet hair. I guess I'll haul the comforter one last time to the laundromat before I get the new cover.

    Thanks! :)

Oh yeah. You can even make them on the cheap by sewing sheets together on three sides. I also add bias-tape ties on the inside corners.

It's also usually way cheaper to go someplace like Marshall's or Homegoods and get two flat sheets and make your own. Use two different sheets and have it look different when you flip it. I have made some serious sheets (600 thread count and higher) into the best duvet covers on the planet, and since they were single sheets and on clearance, I spent about $20 on each. Awesome.

I made my own duvet cover from two different color sheets - that way I can change the decor of my bedroom just by flipping it over.

I can't find the directions anymore, but this is close: http://www.ehow.com/how_18070_make-duvet-cover.html
