any good trick to improve concentration?

    coffee?

fantabulous rewards if you manage to concentrate for a while?

telling yourself off if you don't concentrate?

    watch on table?

    shut off internet?

nothing seems to work on mondays!

Take a break by going over to getcrafty and trying to come up with clever responses to random threads?

I don't know what works either!!!

What usually helps me is making some sort of schedule. You should not try to concentrate on any task for more than 20 minutes anyway so you could make 20 minute time slots (or even shorter ones) and plan in breaks between them...eg work for 20 minutes, then go make a cup of tea, or go to the restroom or something. Simply standing up and walking around a bit increases oxygen to the brain, which makes it easier to focus after the break. 15-20 minutes seems short but you can accomplish a lot in that time. And don't forget to plan in rewards afterwards... :-)

I learnt this from a book about learning/studying effectively. The book said that it's good to take frequent breaks because normally you will remember most easily what you have read just before and just after a break. I don't know if that applies to your job, though, but it's good to keep in mind...

Now, what am I doing reading GetCrafty when I should be working?

I had the same problem so bad on Friday. My brain just kept flipping from one thing to the next. I half-started a million things and accomplished none. It was like that ADD commercial - but I don't have ADD (at least I am pretty sure I don't) I don't know if it was caffiene or what. I popped a couple of Ginko Biloba but it didn't help that I could see. Today I'm normal again (yay!)

Ooh, I think I will try that schedule thing tomorrow. I did so much cleaning on the 15-min work 15-min rest schedule (or even the 15 min work 5 min rest one too) that going back to snippets of working sounds pragmatic.

I think that if I got my butt down to somewhere that taught meditation my concentration would skyrocket - emptying your mind and allowing distractions to pass through you has to even apply to avoiding distractions with a full and active mind.

This is an almost constant struggle for me!

When I've been able to get a proper sleep and am getting a lot of cardio exercise I seem to have an easier time focusing.

Having a lot on my To Do list is distracting.
