    crafty is...

so what to you is crafty?

    to me it's

    handmade but not didactic
wearing a homemade pink skirt with kitten heals and driving a muscle car
    baking obscene cupcakes
    being smart
not being demure, but always being nice
    enjoying life

    crafty is...

to me, crafty is lots of things:

    - it's making a penis pinata for your friend's 19th birthday (and filling it with candy and WHITE styrofoam pieces for dramatic effect)
    - it's crocheting dishcloths for your best friend and getting the best reaction ever...for dishcloths!!!
    - it's being cold and then knitting a scarf for yourself and then not being so cold anymore.
    - it's baking a cake without using a mix
    - it's baking a cake WHILE using a mix
    - it's having the ability to bake a cake. period.

roxy, who is craving cake right now

it's looking at something you see in a store and thinking "I could do that" and the optional end of the sentence... "for cheaper" :-P and then actually making one.

    For me it's...

accesorizing with anything you can find. for instance, I'm wearing a ribbon on my hand as some kind of ribbon-bracelet thing. It's almost a trademark.

having backyard picnics spur of the moment.

being able to wrap gifts with stuff lying about the house.

I agree with Roxy on the cake part.

And it's stitching tiny little bells on a scarf you knitted for your Indian friend so she'll jingle-jangle.

Do you have to actually make one? That knocks me out, hee.

    For me, crafty is . . .

*knowing that handmade doesn't mean cheap, even if the object is inexpensive

*seeing that you can use scrap cardstock to make weirdly shaped notecards instead of throwing it away

    *keeping a crafts-to-try list that's a long as your books-to-be-read list

    *really all about potential

    Crafty is...

kinda Marxist when I think about it- I feel alienated by all the stuff that's out there to buy, and even when I like it and buy it, it never satisfies or seems to have meaning. When I make something myself, I guess I'm getting in touch with my species-being, and I actually feel love (no, really, it's pathetic) for the stuff I've made.

displaying all your handbags on the living room wall

hanging little paper lanterns in the kitchen

making something just about every day (except when you're sick)

getting a million ideas from everywhere and coming up with something totally unique--figuring out a new way to do something, trying it out, and wearing it around

learning a new craft and getting really excited about it

planning trips so you get to hang out with craftistas :)
