    Portland, Oregon

I think Portland sounds simply marvelous. I have never been to Portland. I would like to visit, and wondered if anyone could offer up suggestions, comments, whatever about where to go, what to do, where to be crafty, what to avoid, etc., etc.

    Mucho Gracias!

    check out www.portlandmercury.com

you find a lot of strange cool things to do/see in there. its one of the free indy newspapers

the guy who wrote fight club also wrote a book called refugees and rejects... about portlands underground. good stuff in there if its still around

i would go see the shanghi-tunnels...

go to rimsky korsakovs (late night tea/dessert house/live music)

if you like jazz, jimmy macs is a great place to go for local music.

23rd street is fun to walk down on a nice day little shops and boutiques and music millinium...

POWELLS!!! the worlds largest independant bookstore... i think its on 10th and burnside

if you like galleries, go to the pearl district. in downtown NW.

    Portland is an awesome town.

    I second Powells.

There's tons of record shops and great thrift stores (esp the Bins, Value Village, and Knittin' Kitten).

The last Thursday of every month, there's a festival type-thing in the Alberta district.

Food Fight Grocery! I've never been to PDX but Food Fight sounds great.

Also, Liberty Hall seems to have fun events:

Food Fight is right up the street!
It's small, but awesome, and one of the best/cheapest places to buy tofu near us. I was kind of nervous wearing "meat shoes" there, or anything not vegan, but they're not mean if you walk in wearing suede sneakers. They're very nice. It's easy to drive by because it's kind of half underground.
