Please help me locate a patterned fabric like this

Hey! Can anyone help me find a good, affordable source for a pretty specific pattern on material to make my Halloween costume? My boyfriend and I are going to dress up as Sarah and the Goblin King from Labyrinth. If you don't know who that is, that's o.k., I'm attaching a photo! She doesn't have much in the way of a costume so, the vest is very important. I've had a really hard time locating a vest like this so a friend is going to help me sew it. Any suggestions on where to find material that looks like this? Thanks so much!!

Not sure where to get the fabric, but worse case senario, you can paint it.

Just make the vest out of the off-white fabric. Once it is together, use gold fabric paint (the kind with the 'writing tip' ) and then just paint the curly-cues.

writing tip-- either a paint pen or the bottle that forms a point and you just snip off the tip. You simply squeeze the bottle to create a line.

It will take a little time, but a friend of mine dressed up like the martian girl from Mars Attacks

And she made a white dress and drew all the curls and it looked GREAT!

    good luck.

I like that idea, bratgirl! I wouldn't have thought of that! And upholstry fabric is an excellent place to look, deborahthecraft. Thanks to you both for the help.

It also has a sort of Indian look to it, if you can find a place with a cheap sari to chop up...

And don't forget thrift stores, you never know what someone would have worn.

Also, check the Xmas prints. Sometimes you can find simple prints with gold in there. :)
