    Painting foam?

I'm creating a fish costume for Halloween, but I'm stuck on how to get the colors I want.
I'm using two body-sized sheets of 1" thick foam, like you would use for upolstery. I'm cutting it into two fish shapes, then glueing it together at the edges, leaving a space to see out of and enough room at the bottom to move my feet.
But how to paint it? Does anyone have experience painting soft foam like this? I've seen it air-brushed, but I don't have the equipment or skill for that. I was thinking latex paint, acrylic, or maybe spray paint.
I have enough foam to experiment with, but I thought I'd check with the experts first!

    Thanks,
    Hannah

spray paint works quite well. for details, you can even spray some spraypaint into an old yogurt cup or whatever, and use a throw-away brush to paint it on. because it's solvent-based, it dries faster and doesn't get the foam gunky and paint-logged.
