    Knitting Hands HELP!

My hands REALLY hurt after knitting for awhile--can anyone suggest any remedies?

If you mean that your joints are sore, I bought some therapeutic fingerless gloves at the hobby store, and they seem to work really well. They look kind of dorky, but not as dorky as hands molded into a claw position because it hurts to position them any other way ;).

OK, probably ought to clarify: you wear the gloves while you work, and that keeps your hands from getting sore. I would not advocate wearing them out in public; unlike the fingerless gloves in the new Stitch N Bitch, these are definitely not cute.

Maybe investigate other ways to hold your needles too, like continental. Or follow typing break rules - 5 min break every half hour, 15 min break every 3 hours - something like that. Google will know better. There should also be some hand exercises for typing that would likely carry though to knitting.

i'm so glad you posted this! I thought I was the only one suffering! If the fingerless gloves redhead is talking about are so unattractive maybe knit a slightly bigger pair to cover them for when you're knitting in public?

having different projects using different size needles can help, too. I'm currently making hats on size 5 and scarves on size 10, and find that switching reduces the pain in my hands.

Plus, more projects are always good!
