laying self-stick vinyl tiles on old tiles...any suggestions
I want to put some self-sticking vinyl tiles on my kitchen floor. The old floor is stained and gross. It's a tiny kitchen about 4' x 8' floor.
it's a rental place so I don't want to mess with the old floor. does anyone have any warnings, words of caution about doing this? If I clean the old floor well will I have any trouble with putting the new tiles on it?
any advice is appreciated.
thanks

We've never done this, but have many friends who have. If you take your time, and do it right, it can really turn out nice.
One thing to be careful of is getting too much water on it, that can cause them to come up or bubble.

I've never heard of laying down new vinyl sheeting over old vinyl sheeting. I'm sure you know the right way to do that is rip up the old stuff, lay down some compound, level it, then lay the new stuff.
Theoretically, you idea will work. You may not get the smoothest floor, but whatever. Just make sure you will be able to get that new layer off when you move. Check what it says about the adhesive. Also, unless your landlord is a total douche bag, (or you live in a huge complex and never see him/her)they might be willing to work with you on it, because if you want to help, and they need to repair it anyway, it could be a win-win situation. And they will probably deduct that money from the rent, or partially pay for it.
Just some unsolicited thoughts.
