Looks like good beginner pattern - knitted baby sweater

    http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_needlewo...298694,00.html

I have only knitted a scarf before and wanted to try my hand at knitting a baby sweater. My mom suggested this pattern and I have started it, I wanted to share it b/c it looks like a good pattern for true newbies like me.

I am trying it in a variegated 4 ply lion yarn - I can't remember the name of it, it's kind of heathery looking. It's really more of a jacket than a sweater I think since it doesn't close up. I was thinking I might put snaps on it so it closes.

WOW, thanks for posting this, My confidence in knitting isn't high. I took one class (met twice for 2.5 hours each time) and have not done anything since.

BUT, given the dimensions of this sweater, I could easily convert it to crochet. You could do little popcorn stitch for the back panel, or a little shell stitch if you wanted. This will be really neat!

Now I just need to take a break from sewing and try my hand a crocheting or knitting one of these!

Oh, and for snaps, you could sew by machine or hand a strip of snaps rather than individual ones. Those are easy to find in the sewing notions and trims.

Have fun with it! I bookmarked the page because knitting is my new craft for next year and that does look pretty easy. Please post a picture when you're done; I would like to see how it turned out.

I have started to make this sweater. It is going so fast! I'm just using simple double crochet with some ombre yarn in yellow, green and blue and making panels to size. Then I'll put them together as shown. Should make a great unisex sweater for a friend's baby. She does not know the sex.

That's so cute! And it looks easy enough for me.

As soon as I get finished with the 6 or 8 scarves I'm knitting for Christmas gifts I'm going to give this sweater a try.

Need to take pictures now. This went super easy and turned out pretty cute. Lessons learned for me, esp for a first time project. But I like it! Will get pics soon, I hope.
