making jewellery from chandelier crystals?
i've seen a necklace made from the long crystal prisms in chandeliers (it was in a store - a piece that they only let their runway models wear, which wasn't for sale, or trying on...) - i've also heard of someone who makes earrings from chandelier pieces. i've love to make them too - but the main thing that i'm concerned about is the weight of the final product (those crystals seem heavy!) and i'm a total beginner when it comes to jewellery.
has anyone else already played around with chandelier crystals and making jewellery out of them? if so, i'd love to see images!

The authentic old pieces are lead crystal. They are heavy. One dangling three incher as a pendant would be some serious weight, and probably painful for a pierced ear.
I believe there are some plain glass pieces and probably lucite prisms and what not available. Those would be more practical to start off with, because of the weight.
Swarovski makes pendants that are crystal and shaped like the antique chandelier pendants, but in various sizes. Any decent bead store should nbe able to help you locate them. A word of caution - the stringing holes have sharp edges, so if you plan on stringing on fiber of any sort - bead thread and monofilament included - you have to use a bail, otherwise the crystal will slice right thru the necklace.
