screen printing - thermal imager anyone?

    hello,
i discovered a great way to make photo silkscreens is with old 3m thermal imager machines, sometimes called thermal faxes. i bought one from ebay and it isn't working. i was wondering if anyone in the new york area has a machine i could pay to use to make 3 or 4 screens. i have all the supplies, just need access to the machine. i am trying to conserve money so would rather do this via a fellow screener than go to an art supply store where they charge quite a bit to make screens. thanks if you can help!

    3m thermal

I had an exboyfriend who did tattoos and he used a 3m thermal imager to make stencils. maybe you could find one that way. I think his broke too and he tried to contact the company to get it fixed. good luck

Juan: A more readily available way to make the images for screen printing is to print them on translucent vellum paper, using a laser printer or even a photocopier - or you can just draw them directly onto the vellum with a marker.

I used to work at screenprinting shops when stat cameras and expensive transparencies were the norm. The old lower-tech methods are fun to experiment with, but are getting less and less convenient and more expensive. I'm starting to get back into it as just a home-based hobby, and I have to keep reminding myself that the setup process really is that much simpler now.

(* sorry, this doesn't address the original posters question, but I thought it might be useful anyway)
A great do-it-yourself screen printing system is Gocco, good for small (size) projects, plus accessories for printing on t's.
