    DIY Yoga Props?

    Hello everyone!
I'm wondering if any of you brilliant craftistas have ever attempted making your own yoga props?
I would like to sew my own bolster and sand bag...any ideas/pointers would be amaaazing.

Dimensions of the bolster should be around 24 x 6 x 12 inches (WxHxD), and the 10-lb. sand bags around 7"x17".

    Here are some samples:

    HuggerMugger Bolster on Amazon

    Thank you so, so much!
    In peace,
    Suzanna

    Hi,

I think that sand would be an unforgiving filling! Also, if the bolsters are large they would get v. heavy. Have you thought of using foam? For a cheaper alternative, try rolling an old blanket or comforter. As far as covers go, I myself have not made one.

    Good luck!

what kind of advice are you looking for, specifically?

for the sandbags, you can buy clean play sand at home improvement stores, and you'll want to use a couple of layers of very tightly woven fabric to keep the sand contained, if you can't find the coated fabric they mention in the Hugger Mugger product. ripstop nylon might be good.

for the bolster, the main expense will be the filling. i'm not sure what the commercial ones are filled with, but a block of foam wrapped in fiber-fill might work.

unfotunately, i've never done yoga with props, so i'm not much help.

    Re: DIY Yoga Props?

    Suzanne,

I'm new on this site and I got here by searching "sew yoga props" on google.

Isn't it strange that nobody is doing this online. My landlord has a couple of bolsters here at my house and I think I could figure them out. I do eye pillows (oooohhhh super hard!!) and I'm willing to start trying it.

I am starting to teach a restorative class and I don't want to buy 80 blankets, even though I found a place for recycled wool blankets. I can't afford it. So. . .I'll be working on bolsters, pillows, and sandbags. I'll let you know what I come up with. Let me know about your progress and If you've found anything.

    Jeanne
