Pattern for Acedemic Hood or Stole
Hi everyone out there
As a teacher I am requested to wear a full acedemic kit everyyear for graduation night. I am tired of paying money every year for a hood (stole), it''s something that appears to be small easy to make. Does anyone know how to obtain a pattern for an acedemic hood (stole), not the gown. I have searched the web, with no success. It there a conspiricay amongst acedemic gown hire companies? Would ove to hear from anyone regarding this topic.

if you're paying every year to rent one, why don't you just purchase one to have as your very own?
i too, must wear full garb at graduation. i'm lucky in that our school pays for it so i don't have to.

If you are specifically looking for a hood, you might be better off purchasing one as smachel suggested.
The first site that came up on google listed the price as $130 - $145 for a hood, and they would customize it for your degree program and school.
Given the amount of velvet and satin involved, you might not save all that much by making your own. If you do want to try it, could you borrow a hood from a colleague? (alternatively you could do this next time you rent one) - trace the panels that make up the hood and add a 1/4 inch seam allowance on all sides?
Just check with your alma mater to see what colors to use before you invest a lot of time or effort.
