    Craft stores in Europe

I found a few through Google, but does anyone have any recommendations for some kind of directory of yarn stores/craft stores in Europe? Every time I go to Germany (well, the whole two times I went) I wish I had looked into this before I left, and in a few days I am going to France. I'm sure I'll have plenty to do over there, but I wouldn't mind looking for nice yarn or fabric that I can't get here. I'll be in Paris at some point, Aix-en-Provence at some point, and the rest of the time visiting family members in various parts of the country (I do not know where...just letting the family ship me around.)
Anyway, does anyone know of a directory or just have any recommendations of French fabric/yarn/craft stores?
    Thanks :)

The last time I've been to France is years ago (and it's a shame because my boyfriend is a Frenchy) but at the time every small town or even village still had it's own specialised yarn shop. Why not just ask your family to direct you to them and just look around? My mom's favourite yarn used to be '3 Suisses' she also had pattern books. I checked Google, but they seem to be more in confection clothing now.
Here's a tip that has not so much to do with your question but do consider this. In France there's a Goodwill organisation called Emmaus and they have thrift stores run by the very people the fund raising is intended for: the homeless and those who have lost direction in their lives. They're usually very cheap and have wonderful, sometimes very old stuff like from old French farms etc. Even if you don't buy it's nice to watch. Ask your family, especially when you're in the countryside!!!

PS: I just think of this now: As in Holland, in France fabric is often traded at the street markets. (I wouldn't even now a shop in Amsterdam) Most towns have a weekly market (often on Saturdays). Ask your family and do check them out if you have the chance. Even if you don't find anything especially now in the spring you will enjoy the atmosphere and do not forget to buy a baguette and some cheese or sausage, sit down in a park and have a 'casse-croute'. Hope you enjoy you stay.

in france, and in paris in particular, look for la droguerie. it's a pretty neat crafty store.

for yarn, in france, i think yarn is sold in a particular manufacturers boutique. so, a phildar store for phildar, an anny blatt store for anny blatt. i think la droguerie sells all different kinds, but don't quote me.

check out http://www.skinnyrabbit.com for some info. she's an american ex-pat living in lyons. there is a search feature at the bottom of the page.

Thanks everyone, for all this advice. I ended up going to a Phildar store that was going out of business and stocking up! It was all on sale. And better yet, I'm equipped for the next trip with more knowledge about finding MORE stores. :)
