    metal bar bead search request

    Hi
I''m looking for a certain type of bead and I have had no luck finding it. Maybe it doesn''t exist, but what I''m seeking is a thin metal bar (not a hollow tube, but a bar, either gold, sterling, pewter, whatever) that has a small loop on each side. The bar would be about an inch long, maybe a little more. Simple, right? All I can find, though, are tubes, and then bars with loops on the top-middle. I live in NYC, so you have to figure that these things are around. And then there''s the internet. But maybe the object''s only a dream. Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Abe

if you can find one, check out the Rio Grande catalog. they don't have an online catalog, so unfortunately you have to either call and request one or track one down! your friendly neighborhood bead shop might have a copy.

You could also draw up what you want and take it to a jewelry repair shop and they might be able to make it for you. I know the store I used to work for did things like that all the time for artists and jewelry designers. If you can't find a place like that, you can call the place I used to work for in Dallas and they will do stuff over fax and email if you need them to. PM me for the phone number if you want it.

This is the closest I could find to what you want. They aren't exactly loops though:

    But these have loops:

    you can find them here:http://www.firemountaingems.com/shop...WFNLINKSSPLAIN

    Best of luck to you

    progress

Thanks so much for the ideas. As far as a progress report, I've still had no luck in any shops. The closest I've seen is definitely the flat bars that Mimii's posted, but I'm really hoping for something that's more of a cylindrical bar, though I'm not sure why that distinction is so important. Also something slightly longer. Maybe you're right, Marcie, that having them made is the best move. I'll look around as some repair shops. The thing is that I want a bunch of them (40 maybe?), and I'm a little worried about cost/uniformity. Someone else suggested that I make them myself from wire, but I don't really have faith in my abilities there, and, again, I want these things to be pretty sturdy/solid.

These are much smaller than what you're looking for, but is this the shape you have in mind?

I'm afraid you'll find these too thin, though they have the right length.

Found these in my favourite online bead shop. It's Dutch though but they are very very nice people. Feel free to contact them, even if what you're looking for is not in their catalog they may be able to help you.
This is the home page: http://www.sayila.nl

And this is the page on the catalog with the metal accessories: http://www.sayila.nl/shopmenu.asp?ma...ds&submenu=254

Sorry, it's all in Dutch, but the pictures are saying enough and for the sizes you can find converting programs through Google.

The dutch site is excellent, and I definitely feel like it's getting closer. Actually, these ones: [img]http://www.sayila.nl/images/13274_SMALL.jpg] are also a good approximation. But the thinner ones you've linked to might also work. Ideally it would probably be a combination of the two. I do want the bar to be cylindrical, and the fatter image you've posted would be a bit too oblong/flattened. For the thin ones, I also can't quite tell how many come in a BudgetPack. Is that mentioned?
Thanks so much for the help,
I hope the final project bears out the effort of the search.

    Hey Abe,
The thinner ones come in a packet of +/- 28 pieces and cost 1.05 euro's a pack. Order more than five packs they become cheaper. Note the exchange rate this moment is about 1.50 dollar for a euro.
I just checked, they ship overseas too.
Also you might still email them to ask if their supplier has a thicker variety of the product. I see their stock change and grow almost daily!

Hi again, I haven't seen any more bars lately, but I promise if I ever do find what you are lookign for, I will be sure to let you know. I hope you've had better luck than I.
