crafts for special needs children
Hello All-
I''ve been the coordinator of a Saturday day camp for special needs children for the last six years. We do themed crafts every month, and to be honest, I''ve just completely run out of ideas. January''s a hard month, too... generally we wind up doing some kind of winter (but not Christmas) themed craft.
I was hoping some of you craftys might have some brilliant ones for me.
The kids run the gamut of skill levels from mainstream to severely impaired, but they all have at least one volunteer counselor to help them through each craft.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

could they hand stitch mittens from old sweaters? or scarves, that could be easier. depending on the sweaters, and if they were felted/fulled, you might just need to cut a long rectangle out of the middle of one sweater and call it a scarf. Or the more skilled kids could stitch smaller rectangles together to make a longer scarf, possibly stitching along the edge if necessary to keep it from unraveling if it wasn't fulled/felted first....

Play Dough is always a good craft as it doesn't require too much fine motor skills. Painting can be good too - as you can use all different tools to paint with depending on the ability levels.
