Baby food jars:
How about for cleaning your brush if you are using water-based paints for something?
Or for holdng small bits like nuts and bolts or jewelry making stuff like hooks and stuff.
You could also make small sand art pictures: color salt or sugar with different colored chalks, then pour the colored slat in layers in the jar - and poke down with a pencil periodically to make peaks and valleys. Did you ever do this in art class as a kid? I loved making them.
Or as containers for lotions, oils, and potions you make.

My sister has some old folk art pictures done entirely in stamps. They are really amazing. The artist rarely used the actual image and instead focused on the patterns to make new objects. (he actually only kept the faces, the rest was abstract pattern that was only recognizable by the cut out form. does that make sense?...collage type stuff) It would be neat to do a diary or something like that out of stamps.

actually there is a huge movement going on right now with needle arts - venus just spotlighted an artist that does rug hook purses with pop art pictures, there are funky kits by indie designers on the market too.
anything that shows a new and different twist to an old favorite is great in my crafty world. i like to see crafts that make me gasp "Why didn't i think of that?"
you should do a sewing machine 101 for people who are scared by using machines. i know a lot of artists/crafters who are intimadated just at the thought of trying to go backwards! i am a self taught sewer, i started with placemat purses and worked my way up. now i do wild collage story quilts and all kinds of pillows...
