I'm the same way - we are in two separate states. Still in the west... I do really like the travel themed idea. We both have infinities for different countries -- we could pick a theme based on Mexico or Switzerland.
The journal/art book swap would be a fun way to communicate with each other -- a different way to reminisce.

oooh!
themes!!!
childhood!!
books you've read. specific books... like the alice in wonderland softies recently. or maybe lord of the rings. or she's come undone. any book that you and sis have read.
swaps based on music! so if your sister likes evanesence (sp?) and you like the beastie boys, there's some level of thinking and empathy involved.
swaps based on children or future hopes.
swaps based on planned trips together ... you're going to the west coast? a West coast swap, with a Dre anthem CD ... or a shirt with an ironed on pic of the Santa Monica pier.
a journal swap. or an art book swap. "when i was 5 and you were two, i thought that you..." "here is my pencil interpretation of that dinosaur you drew when you were in 4th grade..."
i miss being geographically close to my sister. i bet you can't tell ;)

Post Subject: book swap anyone?
hello all!
this is my first real post here (i think i posted at the beginning, but then i had to reregister...i've been on glitter 2 for a while, and it's not that i don't like the yellow or the hash-out discussions, but there's something about it that's not the same...) okay, on to the real topic of this thread!
i received a chain letter in the mail that was a kind of book swap. what you do is send one book (previously read ok) and then distribute the letter to 6 people. in return, hopefully, you get 36 books! the key to it is giving the letters to people you're sure will want to participate (asking them is good!)
so, i've sent my book, and now i have to distribute the letters. does anyone want to participate? i thought i'd give the crafty girls a chance!
send me a message if you want me to send you the letter.

A book swap is fun - same with magazines. Love the Naked Lady idea!
A book swap is a great idea...
I saw that article, too, and thought it looked wonderful. Too bad, I live in apartment the size of shoebox with my boyfriend! Hmmm, I should brainstorm ways to have a slumber party anyway.

I also saw the article.....I've actually done this and it was very fun! We played "truth or dare" and a couple of board games. Cooked a fab dinner and then lounged around talking about how much we ate & how good it was. It was at the beach, so we sat around in the sand & read magazines and gabbed about "girl stuff" - fashion, hair, boys, crafts(of course), etc.
As far as drinks - what about blender drinks? Those are easy to make non-alcoholic and tend not to be too strong(ie no one will get sloshed).
A book swap is fun - same with magazines. Love the Naked Lady idea! Don't forget to bring a camera so you all can look at the pics next time!

i would do the swap if it were a recipe book swap. i think it would be more fun to do a little recipe zine, especially since no one did anything about the zine swap over in book worms. i'll do this swap if i can make a little illustrated recipe book instead of cards. that would be so fun!

There are a few book swap sites on the web:
bookmooch.com
paperbackswap.com
frugalreader.com
These might help for those hard to find books...
Did you also know that your local library can borrow books from other libraries? It might take a while but if you can't find a book then it's worth it.

kind of off-topic, but we don't have a swap forum (maybe we could start a book swap in this forum?): does anyone want a slightly mutilated copy of The Time Traveler's Wife? My daughter got ahold of it and the first 25 or so pages (inc front cover) are really bent, and the next 50 or so are slightly creased, but it's still readable -- I found a couple of copies on sale so I don't need this one anymore. Anyone?
I think a book swap would be great...But then I looked around at my bookshelves and could only find like three or four books I'd let go so I'm not sure I'd be much of a participant. But I do hope you find a happy home for your copy of The Time Traveler's Wife :)

i just finished book #2 of the year...*the know-it-all* by a.j. jacobs...one man's quest to become the smartest person in the world by reading the entire *encyclopaedia britainnica*...it's filled with odd and interesting facts and is a quirky type of memoir as well. i liked it quite a bit.
ooh, I wanted to pick that one up but wasn't sure if it would be good or annoying; I might read it after all.

eta: almost forgot -- I just finished Bill Bryson's The Lost Continent. really didn't like it, although I usually love Bryson's stuff. he came off kind of dick-y in this one.
