Post Subject: wanna SWAP? I have beads, sewing machine, leather cord...
My cousin was into hemp stuff, but got out of it. So she gave me a HUGE copier paper box FULL of beads. Mostly pony beads in every imaginable color, some odd fruit shaped beads, and other funky beads thrown in, along with some of that plastic brading lace stuff. I have no use for this stuff, so though I would offer them here.
I am open to trades on it. What I could use is seed beads, LARGE focal beads, felt, stiff stuff, chopsticks or hair sticks, other beads... OR anything really that I might be able to use... So let me know if anyone wants some stuff. I also have a couple of rolls of leather string/lace in black and tan, plus an extra sewing machine that I can not figure out how to work... Newer model, i got without instructions, but I cant use any sewing machine, so I am clueless on that actually.
Ok edited to add, the fruit beads are plastic. I also am getting rid of cake decorating stuff, pans, tips, letters... On OLD cookie press with attachements, a book about selling anything on ebay, and various other crafting books. Will also sell this stuff outright to someone who can use them!

usually they have those clear cellophane bags at stores that carry baking/cake decorating/bridal type supplies. they also have them at party stores, but it's harder to find plain clear ones.
http://www.myownlabels.com/bags.htm
sells them, but i've never bought from them.
i think a business name would be good. a brand type name is more memorable than someone's name and a bland description.

Post Subject: Wilton Cake Decorating Course
Has anyone taken the Wilton Cake Decorating Course? I will go to the 1st class tonight and haven't decided on whether to get the course one kit ($20?) or the big kit ($50) with everything.

I've been looking up a lot of spooky food lately. One of the coolest looking treats I saw was eyeballs:
Make peanut butter balls (PB mixed with some powdered sugar then rolled into a ball and dipped in chocolate), but use white chocolate to coat them.
Put an M&M on it and smush it down a little bit. Get some cake decorating gel in black and red. With the black gel, put a pupil on the M&M (iris). Then use the red gel to make squiggly veins on the eyeball. Cool, spooky, and yummy!

I can relate to how you feel. I felt the same way 10 years ago - I am now 34. I don't have anything extremely profound to say, but I just believe that there is no set formula to life. Right now you are in a position to go in any direction. Figure out what is most important to you and then decide where to go from there. Learning a skill like knitting or cake decorating would be great no matter what you decide to do. Art can fit in anywhere and will enhance your life.
P.S. At 34, I just had my first child, and one of my dear friends is having her 4th at 41! There is time...

How powerful!!!! To the annoyance of my husband or FIL, I compare all things of THAT nature to cake decorating (I used to bake for a living before babies)......drywall mudding....oh, that's like crumbcoating, right? Caulking... that's like using a pastry bag, right?
I also find that if there are some things I don't WANT to do, but need doing....all I usually need to do is get all the stuff together and tell him to either show me how or watch me break something....like sunday...I had asked him repeatedly(read: nagged) to either show me or dihimself how to change the oil in my truck.....ya ya ya....so I took all the crap out to the driveway when the kids were down for their nap....got the book out and started....two minutes later....he was doing it...sometimes I only keep him around 'cause he's good looking....he's getting worried about his "job security" with me....we both know I just let him stick around to lift the really heavy stuff and take the garbage out ;-P

Post Subject: The Waiting is the Hardest Part
While I'm not Christian, and I can't even define my faith for you, in my own way I'm a very spiritual person. I feel that for whatever reason it may be some force does guide us to do what we do and that we are ever learning and evolving. That said, I just don't know what my next step in life is going to be. I'm not talking career wise, family wise, or anything -wise....just, hmmm, what's next?
Maybe I'm spiritually trying to keep up with the Jones'. Right now I'm seeing friends take new career paths and going to school, and I'm seeing loved ones move or start families. I just began a new job a few months ago, and I'm fairly happy with my living situation as well, though of course I aspire to have my own home one day and have all kinds of daydreams of that and other things. I'm happy with my life, my partner, who I am right now, etc. At the same time, I feel behind. I'm the oldest woman in my family now that hasn't either been married or had a child, and I don't have the "excuse" of choosing academia over family either, as I did not go to college.
There are options out there for me. I've been invited, informally, to move back to the Midwest from southern CA. I know I could do other things career wise, and artistically as well. I'm looking at the idea of taking some classes to learn cake decorating and perhaps knitting or crocheting. But I just feel...stunted...somehow right now. None of the directions I could go in feel really right, but at the same time none feel really wrong either.
I don't suppose I'm asking for advice really. I'm just wondering if anyone has felt the same at a point in their life (right now I'm 23, nearly 24, so I'm feeling more like an adult but still fairly young and naive, lol) and how they worked through it. Or do you work through it? Maybe the lesson here is:be still. ?

Wondering what we would need from you?
--Each guest will need to be well-versed in the craft area they are presenting on the program. You shouldn’t submit projects that you’ve only done once or twice – we’re relying on you to know all about the craft area you’re presenting!
--The guest should be able to provide finished samples of the project(s) we’re making as well as additional examples of projects that could be made with similar techniques. Please note: guests cannot demonstrate copyrighted works by other designers – original designs only unless you have written permission from the copyright owner. The guest will also acquire materials and make and bring step-outs for the project(s).
--Because we only have one guest for the whole show, the guest needs to be able to present the how-tos of each project clearly to crafters of all skill levels – if you don’t like talking to crowds or getting your picture taken, this probably isn’t something you’ll enjoy.
--Instructions (along with any necessary patterns or templates) for the project(s), contact information for yourself, and other info (such as books you’ve written) that will be submitted to DIY for use on their website, www.diynetwork.com (go on over and check it out!).
--We’ll be taping these shows in Burbank, CA between August 30 and September 30, 2005 so you need to be available for a few days of traveling and taping during that time period.
Interested or know someone who might be? Just send along the following info and we’ll get in touch with you as soon as we can so we can talk to you about it in more detail.
E-MAIL YOUR ANSWERS TO: NWhite@sdetv.com
1. What’s your name and age?
2. Where do you live?
3. Please refer to the list above and let us know which of those topics you think you would fit into best (you can list as many as three categories).
4. Also, what kinds of projects have you created, and what sorts of materials do you like to work with?
5. Have you written any craft books? If so, tell us more about it/them!
6. Have you taught anyone else how to do any of your crafts? If so, please tell us more abut it your teaching experiences!
7. Have you been on television before? If so, what show(s) did you appear on and when?
8. Any other exciting or interesting tidbits of info we should know about you?
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

Post Subject: Wedding Cakes
Did you married people out there have those traditional type of toppers, or something else creative?
This site has some neato cake toppers. This is my favorite:
http://www.asonecaketops.com/html/top5.htm
Although I have a hard time imagining this one on top of a cake:
http://www.asonecaketops.com/html/top6.htm
I think cake decorating is so cool. I love the Martha wedding issues with all the different cakes:
http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel191950&page=4&edfParentCat=&subStyleType=&layout=&dp=false
& I always remember that old "Reading Rainbow" episode where Lavar visits the woman who makes cakes in all kind of cool shapes.

Name: Amy
Location: San Diego, CA
Age: 28
single, no kids, no pets (perhaps someday this all will change, but I'm in no hurry)
I collect:
A bunch of junk really. I'm a pack rat, it's hard for me to throw anything away. As I am dangling objects over the trash can, I always think "but I could make this into something..."
My favorite crafts are my current crafts. I have a short attention span, and once I've made something, I often ditch it and move on to the next craft. Past craftiness has included sewing, book-making, card-making, photo albums and scrapbooks, wire and bead hangy-things, sock monkeys, treasure boxes, picture frames, jewelry, oragami, and other crafts involving scissors, paper, fabric and glue.
I have been crafty since my very young days. My grandma often tells the story about how I would come over to her house and say "grandma, I have to cut!" She would sit me in a big cardboard box with a stack of paper and kid's scissors, and I'd happily cut away for hours.
I have a special place in my heart for children's school supplies (especially yummy-smelling erasers).
I'm also very into baking, especially cake decorating. I will be in culinary school sometime in the next 8 months, depending on where life takes me (physically). San Diego is beautiful, but it's time to move on. Top choices are San Francisco or Northahmptom, Mass.
I love discovering new (or new to me) music, I frequent record stores and music sites, I love "Sounds Eclectic" on KCRW (NPR) in Los Angeles.
I am a Scorpio near the Libran cusp (October 25), and I'm probably a lot like both.

I need more book shelves. I am the only one of my family who actually reads (my sister will read occasionally if you convince her the book is cool, my mum doesn't read anything more than a magazine/cake decorating book and my dad won't even read instructions) and because I am addicted to library sales and always I have a ton of books, all squashed into my room.
I reguarly squeeze books on top of the shelved books. I tidied my desk and shoved a load of stuff into the top of one of my wardrobes so that I could pile some of my uni books along with my copy of Stitch N' Bitch Nation and some writing books horizontally on top of my video recorder. I have library books on the floor. If I get anymore desperate I'm clearing out my chest of drawers, taking out the drawers and putting shelves in for books. I've got books that I had for school, Shakespeare and Blake and Carol Ann Duffy sitting in the cupboard coz I don't have room for them to be out (which is where I'd prefer them to be). I actually have to pile the books horizontally in front of the book shelved vertically sometimes.
I was just about coping but then I started uni and with that came a load more books I had to buy :( and just before that I'd got into crafting so there are a whole lot of craft books I have to make room for before I give into the temptation to order them from Amazon.
