Tough one.
Since she probably has to be in uniform most days for work, clothing, jewelry and other accessories options are pretty limited. I'd wait on that sort of thing until you know her better.
elixirbeth's right - consumables are good. I tend to think of bath products as intimate gifts for people you don't know intimately.
Since they are newly married, is their wedding registry still posted? It will probably give you an idea as to her tastes and color preferences.
They are probably stocked up on housewares. But you could make a nice picture frame or bowl or something. I don't know where they are in their careers, but as a military family, I would suspect they are at risk of having to move and/or being sent to different places. I think I would want something to signify "home" to me. Like once you unpack the family photo from April, you're home. Or something like that.
The other thought I had was Christmas decorations. You could make a tree skirt or table runner or stockings or something for their new family and new traditions.

I try to not feel Christmas too much too early. I'm afraid of losing my soul to the excessive holiday commercialism if I start earlier.
The biggies:
I not decorate for Christmas until 12 days before(lights, trees, wreath, nativity scene). (but I do have snowmen up since we did have some snow in Indiana last week!)
I do prepare gifts (the homemade type) before the 12 days, but I don't purchase from stores until then (except for supplies to make stuff!).
Major ughs:
I heard Christmas music at the mall the day before Halloween.
Several neighbors had Christmas decorations and trees up the week after Halloween.

Your not the only one smudgy cat, did you here about the recent amount of businesses that won't put up christmas decorations because people celebrating hanukah want there decorations up too. I personally think everyone is entitled to celebrate as loud and flamboante as they can with their decor. I would never get upset seeing a dradul (excuse spelling) next to my christmas tree. It's everyones right. I am describing myself as a christain buddist these days, it helps with the holiday meshing. I'm happy for anyone celebrating a holiday that promotes love, family togetherness, and peace right now-and I hope they have a lovely one!

My mom went through a sewing "phase" in the late '70s and churned out a bunch of Halloween costumes, Christmas decorations, and the like. Since then, nothing. My father can be very creative, especially with furnituremaking, woodwork, photography and painting, when he has the time. I really hope he'll take things further when he retires. Neither of my grandmothers did any crafty things, as far as I know. I'm really interested in the folk art of their countries (Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania) and would love to learn more about those.

My family grew up in apartments and rarely did we have a fireplace. My mom used to have a cardboard fireplace that was part of the Christmas decorations. She used to place the stockings on that. I always wondered how Santa could find his way through it, though.

I am looking forward to...
Thanksgiving--getting to see my family, meet my parents' new puppy, Bailey, good food, and shopping the day after Thanksgiving!!
After Thanksgiving--when I'll let myself put up Christmas decorations and listen to Christmas music non-stop =) and when I'll really have to start getting people's presents together

Ehh, cleaning. The biggest rift between me and my husband...
He's extremely tidy...let's say I finish drinking a glass of juice and set it down (in my mind I'm planning on taking it to the kitchen when I get up,) he's all like "how long are you gonna keep that there?"
I'm not a dirty person, but very disorganized, I have stacks of papers on my desk and cryptic notes to myself scattered around...he puts up hooks in his closet to organize his belts and has his shirts all organized in his closet. He FREAKS out if he washes socks and one turns up missing, he'll search high and low and worries about it..
Picture us laying in bed, we kiss goodnight, and he says, "My sock is still missing."
Hee hee. So, we worked out a system where I cook, decorate, and do some of the cleaning...but he does a lot of it because I think it makes him happy to have it done how he wants it to be done. If I throw his socks in a drawer without pairing them up, forget about it!
If only I could get him to organize my closet, I still have maternity and pre-maternity clothes all hanging out together....old NES games, christmas decorations, navy uniform items, et cetera...

Name: Autumn
Location: Twin Cities
Age: 27
Married, 3 kidlets Iryche 8, Zadye 4, and Aiko 2
Pets: 6 yo orangey cat Osiris and brand new 2 mo shih tzu Odin
I collect: too much, dad was/is an antique dealer and I started at an early age, I've got Bakelite jewelry and am working on a collection of Bakelite handled kitchen utensils to hang on my kitchen walls once I get that ugly country heart wallpaper off it, anything thats glass and cobalt blue (amazing how much a color can touch your soul), craft supplies, especially fabric, have gobs that I buy at thrift stores, estate sales, loving the "ugly vintage" patterns lately...old plastic purses..rag rugs I find for 50 cents at garage sales...antiques christmas decorations, all things asian...
I have more neat ideas to try crafting than I actually do...one of the reasons I like this board, I live vicariously...my kids love to sew with me tho I don't do anything with a pattern or a machine, and sewing everything by hand takes a long time, I'm afraid of sewing machines tho, when I was five i was using my moms and sewed thru my finger...I do enjoy crosstitching, jewelry and ornament making, candle making, coloring with crayons and building with legos, recently discovered solder and glue guns and am thrilled at the possiblilties
I try to read every book that comes into my house, have a tough time with non-fiction tho unless its anthropological case studies, usually only get thru a couple pages otherwise. I have recently been into James Clavell, Shel Silverstein, Sandra Boynton, and getcrafty forums
I go thru huge phases with my music, listen to something from every genre, definately not a snob, I get too many pop and hip hop songs seared into my head for that. All time favs are Eartha Kitt, Billie Holiday, Beastie Boys, Beatles, Vivaldi, I like zydeco, old bluegrass, Bollywood, early nineties rap, late nineties techno, anything that makes me feel something
I like typing in run-on sentences...
I like to cook even tho my family is beyond picky...I can get the man and the youngest to eat a lot of Indian food right now which is good, its on the top of my list...I am definately a carnivore, altho I feel I should actually go hunt once to make me not take for granted the animals that I eat
I'm an awful housekeeper, I think there are too many other things that are more important to be doing then cleaning undermy refrigerator...I am also definately less stressed when my house IS clean...quandries galore...I don't make my kids get out of the mud puddles, or leave the bathtub when they've realized with their clothes still on, the water never got drained from the night before, we have flour and powdered sugar fights when making rosettes, there is glitter and playdoh on the floor behind me from half an hour ago when I started this post and the culprits I believe are downstairs watching one of daddy's kung fu movies

My husband doesn't care if I am crafting, but he mostly doesn't like what I make. Neither do I really - I mean, I'm working on two cross stitch things and they're both Christmas. I usually don't like things that look like that, except for Christmas decorations.
But he did help me look for cheap china and glass at a flea market the other day - I'm starting mosaics and wanted some patterned pieces that are too expensive at the store, so instead of spending $6 on a tiny bag of something, I'll buy a 25 cent plate and break it myself :) He's helping me break the dishes too =)
He likes to paint and I just recently discovered collage...which is something he does in photoshop anyway. I showed him different examples in a book I got from the library and he might end up doing that once we figure out what supplies we need for it.
He doesn't care about the knitting or cross stitch, but more "artistic" stuff he'll probably work on with me. And even I'm not all that into the style of cross-stitch, but I love doing it. lol. We normally watch TV or a movie or he'll play a game while I'm crafting. He only gets mad if we're watching a movie and he thinks I'm not paying attention (which I understand) although I am.
Oh yeah - one thing he hates is the money spent on it. =)

Another Clean Sweep tip I heard on the show is to resist storing things you don't use because then you still have clutter, it's just in containers and not on the counters. I had a problem with that. I hung on to everything, but to me, as long as it was in containers and tucked in some closet, it didn't count as junk. Now, I have three large storage containers in the storage closet - one for Christmas decorations, one for old baby slothes and one for seasonal clothes.

I'm Chelsea, 25 and I live in Evansville, IN. I just got married 6 months ago and we've been together 10 years. I have two kitties, Loki and Isis.
What I like:
- reading (Roald Dahl, Chuck Palahniuk, books about homicide research and dead human bodies and what happens to us)
- movies (current favorites - Sin City, Dawn of the Dead, Matilda - Can't wait for - Land of the Dead (EEP!) and Devil's Rejects
- finding new crafty things to do
- christmas decorations
- free stuff
- finding great deals
- my keeties
- wandering through Michael's and Hobby Lobby.
- playing with flowers at work. :)
- storms
- finding cross stitch patterns I like (Kats by Kelly is my favorite)
I work in a grocery store and I'm in either the floral dept or the general merchandise/drug dept.
I don't have any kids, but we're working on it. :)
My crafting:
- I learned how to knit a week ago - can't figure out the purl stitch yet though.
- I do cross stitch (mostly the black cat "Kats by Kelly" designs and Christmas stuff)
- I just started collecting plates to make some mosaic pieces. I plan on making flower pots, purple and green coasters for our living room, and possibly a small table for our balcony.
- I am very interested in collage. I just discovered it a few days ago when I was looking through the craft section at Barnes and Noble.
- Painting with acrylics on canvas and small wooden or plaster pieces that end up being christmas decorations or magnets.
- I would LOVE to learn how to sew, but one thing at a time! (well, kinda a "few" things at a time really, but you know what I mean)
- I would also love to do beaded jewelry too.
