Post Subject: Painting on white board???
Has anyone done this? I've seen it done, and I know it is possible, I've just never tried it. I want to make White boards (dry erase boards) for my nieces and nephews for Christmas. I want to get small boards, and paint a Christmas scene down one side, then have " ________'s Christmas Wish List" across the top. Then make a blank, numbered list down the "middle of it". Then each year, they can use a dry erase marker to write in their Christmas list.
I am wondering if I should use special paint, because I want them to last and I don't want the paint to chip off the board. I'm worried because they are so slick, I'm thinking that the paint will come off easily. So I am wondering what I can use. The painted boards that I have seen, all look like they were done with permenant markers or paint pens, but I really want it to have a hand-painted look, so I can use shading and things like that.
Anyone have any helpful ideas for me, before I spend a few hours to paint them, only to have the paint flake off? My other option is to paint small bulletin boards that they can just tack their lists too, but I would really like to try the dry erase first!

Post Subject: Difficult holiday for my grandma and family
My grandpa just passed away last week, a week after thanksgiving and 12 days after his birthday. Also my cousin passed away in a tragic boating accident a week before thanksgiving 12 days after her birthday. My grandpa was 77, my cousin was 24.
My poor grandma is doing better but still so sad. I had her and my grandpa on my christmas list as I was excited to be able to see both of this this year but tradgey struck too soon.
I don't know what to do for the holidays that is going to help. I mean I'm sure my grandma will be happy that I am around but I'm just at a loss of what should give her, or what I can do.
Also I'd like to beable to send my aunt something. I barely see her and I didnt send her a gift last year so I don't know if it would be right sending her something or not.

Post Subject: Knitting Machine?
Is there anyone out there that uses a knitting machine (sweater machine). I'm trying to decide if I should be putting one on my "Christmas List" or not. I've had one person tell me they're wonderful, and another person tell me they're the devil incarnate, so I was hoping to find some more in-between type opinions. . .
So far I'm leaning towards getting one just because I love knitting, I'm just so darn slow. . . (4 months for a scarf; a year for a sweater)

when i worked in retail (at the hole of death that is JoAnn, and other less hateful places) the worst day of the year was December 26th...
all the freaky obsessive bargain-hunters come out of the woodwork, and it's just horrid. i remember things like having to individually, one-by-one, ring up an entire shopping card of ugly floral picks. it's time to be happy i don't have a job right now...
oh, my christmas list... i don't really "do" christmas, but if someone WERE to buy me something, i would want some weaving yarn for my loom, and some books.

Post Subject: What's on your Christmas list?
Believe it or not Craftistas....it's right around the corner. And I was wondering what all of you want for Christmas. Besides a big sack of money, I like to here all the different things people want. I personally think my Christmas list is a little strange, but nothing will thrill me more!
-A food dehydrator ( I eat TONZ of dried fruit, why not make my own?)
-The new Stitch 'n Bitch Nation book-a knitter must
-A plant rack that can't be knocked down my my 2 huge Golden Retrievers
-A Chia Herb Garden
I'd also like some clothing but I think I'd rather pick it out myself. Last year my Grandmother bought me an ugly Fushia sweater. I was greatful but I did take it back. Fushia is a color a redhead should not wear!!

I like big, chunky jewelry and the only metal "color" I ever wear is silver. Here are two websites whose stuff I drool over pretty regularly. I'm putting both URLs on my Christmas list to give my friends and family.
