Post Subject: Interested in Selling Your Items?
Hi, I'm the Boutique Director for n.i.c.e. boutique in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are located inside The Women's Art Center. We are a non-profit organization that encourages creativity and growth between women through visual arts. n.i.c.e. is unique among its peers, offering a revolving selection of handcrafted items. The Women's Art Center curates the boutique as an alternative gallery, displaying a collection of contemporary art objects by local and national emerging artists and designers. By providing a forum for new talents to showcase their work, the boutique is a connection between the local community and the art and design world, fashioning an environment where contemporary art becomes accessible through new mediums. The range of objects and prices varies from the small, personal gift to the sole print of a painting from a WAC exhibit, satiating both the casual customer and the focused collector.
I'm currently looking for new products to be featured in our shop. If you are interested in consigning with us, please contact me for further information! (jenmurphy525@yahoo.com)

i am in love with travel. it is the happy thought that gets me through the day. i've had a passport for 2 years, just because if i should get the opportunity, i'll take it in a heartbeat. it's sad, being a student and young, people would say that this is the time for me to explore and travel, because i'm not tied down - but i don't have any money!
but as for specific locals, a few come to mind.
1. maccu piccu (spelling). everytime i see pictures of it, it just looks to amazing.
2. tibet - the mountains, the monks, the wool.
3. morocco - everything is just so beautiful, i love the architecture and colors. sadly, this is one place i would not go alone. everytime i read a female solo travel story about morocco, she gets attacked in some way.
4. vancouver - the west coast, the mountains, the liberal attitude. see also portland and seattle
5. toronto - went there as a child, would love to check out one of the many operas
6. paris - silly and romantic, but still, i wanna see it.
7. amsterdam - no it's not for the hookers and drugs! amsterdam is the contemporary art capital of europe. van gogh museum is there, some really neat mod. architecture. and i'd love to see all the bicycles.
8. indonesia - any one seen South Pacific? i wanna find my bali high.
9. tokyo
mkay, it would have been more efficient to list where i don't want to go:
mexico, australia, sub saharan africa, most muslim countries (i'd feel akward not being in a burka), anyplace violent (includes n. ireland sadly) greenland, venezuala, chile, umm, can't think of too many other places.
sorry this is so long, but i literally day dream about travelling by myself everyday. im so addicted to travel writing books, especially ones where women travel alone. might i recommend "sand in my bra" if anyone is interested in women's travel stories.

The art institute is on michigan avenue, south of where you are staying (111 s. mich, vs. about 900 north for the water tower area, so a dozen blocks or so). It's an easy bus ride or walk, depending on the weather/your stamina. It's an amazing museum & totally worth the trip; it's best to plan what you want to see before hand though as it's a pretty big museum. ufortunately, tuesday is their free day, but if you are a student, admission is only $7 ($12 regular). here's the link to their visitor's info page: http://www.artic.edu/aic/visitor_info/index.html
However, I'd also like to put in a plug for the musuem of contemporary art, which is right up by where you are staying (a block or two east of mich ave). They have a great collection & interesting exhibits. it's smaller and not quite as overwhelming as the art institute, so if you have limited time you might want to check it out -- http://www.mcachicago.org/
as far as restaurants/shopping/stuff to do, check out www.metromix.com and www.chireader.com (the chicago reader, alternative paper). I don't know much about shopping on mich. ave. but for independent stuff, you might want to try wicker park, too; it's easily accessible from downtown via the blue line. it looks like penelope's is in wicker park -- here's a little blurb about shopping in wp.
i'm sure other chi-town gals will chime in with more tips, but lemme know if you have any more questions. chicago is lovely -- you will have a great time.

When I was in grad school, my husband bought me a laptop. Whilst hooking said puter up to our home network, he had to give the computer a name and settled on artgeek (I was going to get my MA in museum studies, have a minor in art theory & criticism, and can go on forever about contemporary art...).
The name really tickled me, and I've since claimed it as my online identity (here, my e-mail addy, my domain name, etc.).
I think my husband is surprised to this day at how well I took to it!

I wonder if Athos sent you the list of crafty/fabric shops already? If so, forgive, but if not:
Britex Fabrics-- amazing, gorgeous, VERY spendy, but worth a visit--it is right off Union Square on Geary:
http://www.britexfabrics.com/Location4.html
Discount Fabrics Warehouse on 4th street at Bryant-- there are a few Discount Fabrics in the Bay Area, but I like that one the best (there is also one on Haight a few doors down from Mendel's, which someone else mentioned). It is a bit of a haul to get there and under an overpass and by a few abandoned spots, but not unsafe at all(in case you're walking along and think it might be, don't worry).
There are also lots of great little boutiques that sell indie designers, both in the Haight and in the Mission, so if you feel like shopping, PM me and I'll pass along those names too.
And I don't think anyone mentioned The Legion of Honor, which is one of my favorite museums in SF-- it is not a contemporary art museum, so if you prefer contemporary, scratch that. It is in a really pretty spot, though!
