ive been getting it for about a year. the june 2004 issue is #13, so its been out a little over a year i guess, since they put out 10 issues per year. i love it. the recipes are simple and practical and delicious! plus the pictures are gorgeous :)
So y'all ARE talking about Everyday Food! I was so confused; I've checked out this thread a few times and thought there was another Martha food mag out that I totally missed, heh. In that case, I can say without a doubt that it's absolutely worth the price of subscription -- there are always a couple of recipes that I use the same month I get the mag, which is rare for me, and it's really a nice, clean, pretty magazine. The recipes are great -- I don't really associate them with MS, though, because they're so easy to follow. I like it as much, if not better, than Cooking Light, which is saying a lot.

ooooh, i like this thread. i have tried to be regimented about cleaning, but as many have said, it is more about the little daily things than the big huge cleaning sessions. When I know that I will not have a weekend day to clean up after myself, I try to make sure that every day I:
1. Hang up my clothes, put away my shoes and put dirty stuff in my hamper corner
2. Wash dishes before going to bed
3. Open all mail, recycle junk, pay and file bills/imp't papers.
I've gotten a lot better about doing all of these things in the past year or so. This weekend i also started the onerous task of going through magazines and ripping out the useful stuff to put in binders. I never keep fashion mags for more than a month, but I have hung on to at least 2 years worth of Martha Stewart Livings and Real Simples. I've finished with a year stack of Cooking Light, and am ready to move on to the other two when I next have a chance!
Otherwise my sweetie is really good about vacuuming just about once a week, and I do laundry every 2 weeks, and clean the kitchen/fridge weekly, and the bathroom as needed. Our apartment isn't very big, so it is easy to get overwhelmed by clutter, but also just as easy to clean a lot of the surface area pretty quickly.

I am totally disorgainsed.. I have a billion cook books.. a billion cooking light mags... and random recipes on my computer... but I never know where to look for that one recipe I am thinking of.. I wish I had a card catalog system for everything :)
One thing that helps is to just use a recipe for inspiration and fudge the rest... that seems to be my method

I gave up my sub to Cooking Light, since I was buying the Annuals, anyway. Now I cheat and read 'em at the library for all the seasonal stuff..and the password for the site.
I have 2 old fashion recipe files. One is devoted to main courses, appetizers, etc., and the other to baked goods. I also keep a journal book of my fav's hand written. I know immediately where to find my fav. alfredo sauce, cinnamon rolls, etc. Works for me.

That was one of my main organization probs until I bit the bullet and bought the book they put out at the end of the year with all the recipes in it. So much easier to store and look through one book instead of 11 or 12 magazines. (The cost thing is what bothers me, though, why get the mags if I'm going to buy the book, but I like getting the mags each month and seeing the seasonal stuff.)
Before I did that, though, I'd pull out all the indexes and store them in a folder with the magazines so I could look through them to find out which issue I needed. Same with the other cooking mags I get.
(that's as close to organization as I get these days. I still need to go through the recipes on my computer.)

Last song you danced to in public?
"Back in Black" by AC/DC -- that's the only one I've ever danced to in public (mr. lemming was drunk and wouldn't let me get out of it), unless you count bouncing to the beat at a concert. I was raised Baptist, and dancing was evil, so I never learned how growing up and I lack the self-confidence to just go out there. I'm sure if I were drunk enough, I'd try, though.
Your least favorite household chore?
putting laundry away
How many magazines do you subscribe to?
too many; I'm trying to not renew the ones I've grown to loathe, which leaves Bust, Bitch, Venus, Kitchen Sink, Everyday Food, and Cooking Light. So I only WANT to subscribe to 6. But right now I probly have subs to about a dozen.
Which would you rather be, rich or famous?
rich
VW Bug, or Mini Cooper?
neither; I've gotten old and can't stand anything that makes it hard to get a kid out of a car seat
Paris, or Rome?
Rome. Went to Paris with a church group (with a boy who stomped on my 18-year-old heart), which probably ruined it for me forever.
Thing on your to-do list that you're putting off:
getting a list together for our out-of-state trip
Getting any lately?
a little, but am kind of holding back because of an indiscretion on mr. lemming's part that still has me kind of pissed off
What's your secret super power?
I'm sort of emotionally psychic. I can't think of a superhero name for that, mostly because it sounds kind of lame unless you know what I mean, in which case it's a really cool power. Hey, wait, I've become: THE UNSENSE-MAKER!
Everyone should be so lucky to have my:
finger-like toes (that sounds gross. but they're awesome!)
What's your sign? Does it suit you?
Aquarius/yes
People most often notice that I'm:
sarcastic/dry or shy (often mistaken for snobbiness)
General feelings about the upcoming elections?
unease
Dogs, or cats?
can't pick. I like the baby forms better than the adult ones, though.
What is your birth order in the family?
oldest of four daughters, although the sister after me is more of a leader.
Corey Haim or Corey Feldman?
who in the what now? I'll go with Feldman because his is the name I sort of recognize.
My question: what are you having/did you have for lunch?
peach rings and water here (Fridays are my no-money days, but I get off at three so I'll eat something when I get home -- probly pad thai)

Name: Ryan (I was named after the soap opera, "Ryan's Hope"- REALLY!)
Location: Michigan
Age: 27
Single, no kids. I've given up looking for "Mr. Right" If he's that great, he'll know where to find me. :)
Pets: One kitty, Bella. She's the most spoiled cat I know, but my roommates and I love her dearly. I rescued her from the Humane Society about three years ago when she was very sick and skinny and now she is definetly living quite the life. :)
I have gotten more into cooking lately (thanks to Food TV and "Cooking Light") and actually sort of enjoy it now. Much better than the Healthy Choice meal I'm currently eating for lunch. :)
I recently leared to knit and I love it! It was a little tricky getting the hang of things, but I made a bunch of scarves and am about to embark on making a baby blanket for a friend of my sister.
My current crafting project is beading purses for my best friend who is getting married, and my sister and me to carry at her wedding.
The qualities I most value in friends are honesty and a sense of humor.
I love to read- especially now that I'm out of school, I have more time to read "non-school books" which is great. I still love going to the library- it reminds me of being a little kid.
I like all kinds of music, but lately, I've been listening to a lot of Coldplay and just downloaded the Killers. The soundtrack from "Garden State" is also one of my recent faves.
I'm an Aquarius, but I never really thought I fit the descriptions.
My birthday is Jan. 24.
I'm from Michigan, and I've lived here my whole life. My favorite places to go on vacation are Northern Michigan and Fripp Island, SC. Both of those are places where I can completely relax. :)

it seems like i get a lot of my recipes from either cooking light, gourmet, or bon appetit. a favorite cookbook is called intercourses, which is broken into sections like figs, strawberries, oysters, etc, all foods that get you in the mood. the recipes are very fresh and creative.

I used to subscribe to tons, but had to cut back due to time/money issues, so now I only get:
* BUST
* MS Kids
* Everyday Food
* Teen Vogue (shhhh!)
I dropped Bitch because I wasn't excited when it came in the mail anymore. And Kitchen Sink because the typos were killing me. And Cooking Light because I like Everyday Food better and I can buy Cooking Light's annual recipe book for about the same price as a subscription, or cheaper if it's a used copy.
I buy these every other month or so (like when we make the AL or FL trips):
* Venus
* Paste
* MS Living
* Nylon
* Utne Reader
I never got into Readymade. We were not meant to be. I do like to page through the crafty mags at Borders, the only problem is the ones I really love are the expensive ones and I just can't make myself do it.
Also, I would like to get an alternative parenting mag, but I can't seem to find any to look through; I should probly look up HipMama and Mothering.

Well, there are the ones I choose....
Bust
Midwifery Today
HipMama
Mothering
Cooking Light
Ottobre (a Finnish sewing magazine with free patterns!)
professional journals for special education (my work)
and then there are the ones my mom and dad give me every year...
Southern Living
Real Simple
Organic Gardening
International Society of Bassists journal
Better Homes and Gardens
I could do without a couple of the former category, but I haven't had the heart to tell my folks!

ummm... am i the only one who occasionally gets a HUGE kick out of say... Us Weekly, or In Touch, or (gasp) Star? I would say People, but... the human interest stories break up the celebrity gossip and innuendo...
probably i am. to redeem myself, i do subscribe to Budget Living, Real Simple, Living, Cooking Light, San Francisco (which I don't think is a very good magazine, but its the one the city's got), and have gift subscriptions to Elle and In Style (the In Style comes from the friend who I bought a gift subscription to Us Weekly for, because she was embarassed to get it for herself).
and i really wish i had an excuse to subscribe to Cricket! Which is the best magazine ever. It cheers me up just looking at it.

Post Subject: magazine-aholic
My name is ParisHamster, and I am a magazine-aholic. It's true, I subscribe to too many, but I do end up reading them all. I go through fads and infatuations, but remain true to a few.
Current:
Martha Stewart Living--I don't care what people say, I've been a Martha fan since her first book Entertaining came out many many many years ago.
Newsweek--I like the liberal bias
Mary Engelbriet Home Companion--a bit over the top, but like the artist studios
Home and Garden--boring, too high-end with $24,000 coffee tables
O--I always want to read it, but they pile up!
Everyday Food
Gourmet--I have been off and on since Ruth Reichl took over
Real Simple--still like it
Organic Style
Natural Home and Garden
Body+Soul--just started this one, so far they seem to all be the same
Domino
Health
Cottage Living
Western Interiors
For work (who am I kidding?):
People--yes, I must read it, but I do skim!
Entertainment Weekly
The New Yorker
InStyle--just how thick can this magazine get?
Sunset
Saveur
Palm Springs Life
Sunrunner
Elle
Elle Decor
Better Homes and Gardens
Sometimes:
This Old House
Budget Living--usually a little too post-modern or mid-century modern
House Beautiful--falls into the same $24,000 coffee table area
Yoga Journal
Mother Earth News
InStyle Home
O Home
Belle Amoire
Vanity Fair
Country Living
Metropolitan Home
How
