Post Subject: Help! I''m writing a paper on crafting!
I''ve been glued to getcrafty for a few weeks now (I was just on Craftster until I found these forums), and this is my first post (what better time to register than now!?!)
I''m a college student and a crafter, so when I was assigned a research paper with a topic of my choice - I chose to write about \"The resurgence of Handcrafting\"! My assignment requires that I do a few interviews to supplement my research, so who better to interview than all of you expert crafters?
So here are my interview questions, and I''d really appreciate anyone who could take the time to answer them!
* What do you know about the history of crafting? (ie the arts and crafts movement in America in the 1890-1930s, crafting in the 1940s during WWII, etc.)
*What crafts do you do? Where did you learn them?
*Why do you craft?
*How do you think the internet has affected the popularity of crafting?
*Are you male or female? Do you think crafting tends to be more feminist?
*Do you sell your crafts? If yes, why? And where do you sell? (Craft fairs, Etsy? etc.)
*Do you think certain crafts are generation specific? (In other words, are there crafts that people of younger generations do that people in older generations don''t? Or vice versa)

Post Subject: Craftypreneur R&D Grupo Forming
If you're interested in turning your crafting into a livelihood, then please consider joining my R&D group for Craftypreneurs. It's free, it will be informative and might even help you get clarity on your path.
This is a call for you to state what needs you have and what support you desire to make this the life of your dreams. This group will meet three times via confrence call starting in September. It is a great opportunity to not only share your important perspective, but also to have access to a life and business coach for creative women. You'll connect with other craftistas, get some free coaching and maybe help you with your business plans.
If you're interested, please go to my website
http://www.comadrecoaching.com/contact.html and send me your info on the contact form. Be sure to specify Craftypreneur in the message, plus anything about yourself you'd like to share.
I'll get back to you with info on times, etc.
Please share this with your friends and crafting sisters. I don't know of any resources out there that offer coaching of this sort to crafting women and my objective is to find out if the community has a need for it. I would need at least ten women so tell a friend and pass the word!

Post Subject: Invitation to a Cyber Crafting Weekend!
Our cyber crafting weekend starts tonight at 6PM EST. If you have never been to a cyber craft then now is your chance to check it out.
A cyber craft is like going to your favorite Crafting event with all the chatting, creating, games, challenges, PRIZES, and loads of inspiration only over the Internet. Have you felt overwhelmed trying to figure out what to take to your crafting event and end up taking everything and the kitchen sink? Can''t get a babysitter? The time doesn''t work with your schedule?
A cyber craft is perfect since there is nothing to pack and you have all your tools and supplies with you. No babysitters to hire. You can logon at anytime and get started. To make it even more perfect invite a few friends over and create together.
Starting tonight at 6PM EST you will find challenges to tackle. You will have until midnight the next night to finish the challenge and load it to our gallery. The Design Team and myself are around all weekend if you have any questions. Each evening at 6PM EST another set of challenges and projects to start on.
Can''t tackle all the challenges and projects this weekend? Save them and do them another time.
You are going to find plenty of Mother''s Day gift projects to create. A great time to get it all done in plenty of time for Mother''s Day.
Go to our Community Board to get your supply list and all the details.

Post Subject: *Crafting for a Better World!* holiday craft drive
Crafting For A Better World
Portland Super Crafty has set out to save the world, and we need your help! We’re collecting donations of handmade items and craft supplies to give to some amazing organizations around Portland and could use your crafting superpowers. Please help us brighten the holiday and warm up the winter for some less fortunate men, women, and children by giving them the gift of craft!
Types of items to donate:
This is a comprehensive list of what the organizations could really use, but feel free to be creative and send in other items as well!
Donations must be received by Monday, December 15.
Please send your items to:
Torie Nguyen
One Centerpointe Dr., Suite 550
Lake Oswego, OR 97035
Questions? Email us at pdxsupercrafty@yahoo.com. If you live in the Portland area and would like to submit your donation in person, please drop us an email to make arrangements.
*If you would like a receipt for your donation, please include a note with your name, address, and the retail value of the item.
About the organizations:
The Goose Hollow Shelter
The Goose Hollow Family Shelter is a temporary emergency shelter for homeless families in the Portland metropolitan area. They take in anyone who has a child under the age of 18, as well as pregnant women. The shelter currently operates from November to May and is hoping to one day have the resources to stay open year round. In the evenings, they have “kid time” where volunteers lead the kids in various activities, one of which is crafting.
p:ear
http://www.pearmentor.org/
p:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.
Community Action Organization
http://www.communityaction4u.org/
Community Action exists to ensure that low-income families have a place to turn for help as they strive to get back on their feet and achieve a better life. They offer the following services: A Kid’s Domain: Before and after school care, Early Head Start/Head Start Preschool, Energy and Emergency Services, Homeless and Housing Services, Opening Doors: Maternity outreach and pregnancy support.
Buckman SUN School
http://www.sunschools.org
http://www.buckmansite.teacherhosting.com
Buckman Arts Magnet Elementary School is one of the community schools serviced by the SUN Program (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods). The mission of the SUN program is to improve the lives of children, their families and the community through partnering with local school communities to extend the school day with a variety of classes and develop schools as “community centers” in their neighborhoods. We are specifically asking for donations for their Winter Craft & Gift-making Night on Wednesday December 15th at Buckman Elementary School. Families are invited to return to school in the evening and create unique handmade gifts for the holidays with the help of parent volulteers and local artists (including the girls of Super Crafty!)
One more organization collecting craft supplies and handmade gifts is La Casa de las Madres, a San Francisco-based group that offers emergency services to women and their children escaping domestic violence.
They have women of all ages there, and children from newborn to age 18, so items of all sizes and colors would be welcome. They would take blankets, scarves, hats, mittens, gloves - all the standard handmade stuff. If you do not knit or crochet, you are welcome to sew any donations. Machine washable is good, so is warm wool, but they are not picky and would take anything. You are welcome to wrap stuff if you want, but please put a tag on the outside indicating what is inside, and the size, etc., and attaching a tag indicating the fabric content, care instructions, and maybe a little pick-me-up message would be wonderful.
They are also looking for donations of art and craft supplies - fabric, yarn, needles, paper, crayons, hooks, glue, markers, etc. NO magazines, they already have plenty.
About La Casa: La Casa de las Madres offers emergency residential shelter to battered women and their children while providing counseling, family-based services and referrals. Our Emergency Crisis Shelter has the capacity to shelter and support 35 women and children per night. La Casa's downtown San Francisco office houses our two 24-hour Crisis Phone Lines, a Drop-In Counseling Center, the Teen Intervention & Prevention Program, and the Community Education & Outreach Program. All services are offered free-of-charge in English and Spanish.
Please send donations directly to the shelter by December 17:
La Casa de las Madres
1850 Mission Street, Suite B
San Francisco, CA 94103
PDX Super Crafty won’t be delivering these gifts, we’re just handling donations for the Portland organizations! Thanks for your generosity this holiday season!

This is an interesting piece written by a CalTech grad about mass production vs. crafting and how they are coming together. I think it was written in the late 90's, but the issues addressed are still being talked about today.
Note: This is not for the sake of argument - this is only food for thought. This person is not necessarily a reliable source, but his viewpoint is interesting.

Post Subject: getting permission for copyright-trademark- logos
I'm contacting the business and organizations that hold the rights (for certain artwork and logos) to ask for permission to reproduce their designs for the purpose of selling my crafts. I've only had one decline, the others have not responded.
I'm wondering if anyone else has received permission in this way?
Am I wasting my precious crafting time?
I could design my own faux vintage art...but they wouldn't be reproductions, which is the market I'm tyring to tap into!

Ok, so my sister is adopting a baby girl......and my whole family is going bonkers because this is the first baby girl in the whole family! Woohoo! Anyway, I am crafting away at the gifts here & thought I'd make a few of those padded hangers in fabrics that coordinate with her nursery colors. Anyone ever done this? I found some directions online, but they are for "adult" hangers. Obviously I'd just scale it down, but I thought someone might have a few tips.
Thanks!

I recently opened my new company and launched my new website. I would love to get some feedback from you guys. I do it all by myself from business cards, website, newletters, and brochures. I create the displays for my craft

Any and all feedback is welcome. I hope to grow enough to al least pay for my crafting obsession and then some.

Post Subject: Journalist seeking crafster feminists in the East Bay Area
Hi all,
I'm a journalist and I was fascinated by Jean's manifesto on the new domesticity, which put into words something I've been noticing and thinking about for a long time.
I'm interested in writing about young women who are embracing traditionally feminine activities -- crafting, cooking, whatever it is -- as part of their own expression of feminism, more than traditionalism. The catch: they need to live in the East Bay of the SF Bay Area.
If you fit this category or know someone who does, please email me to laila.weir@eastbayexpress.com or call me at 510/879-3737.

I recently moved to College Park, MD, and would love to join or form a crafting group. I''m car-free, so I can''t manage the Baltimore or NoVa groups--is there anyone out there nearer to me (Greenbelt, Cheverly, Bowie, Beltsville, Silver Spring, Northeast DC)?
I make jewelry (beading, wire, and metal work), stationery (stamping, printing, collage), and recently learned to crochet and knit. I''d be interested in learning just about any craft, and I''d be happy to teach anything I know. I would be able to host gatherings, or we could find a Metro-accessible coffeeshop or restaurant.

Post Subject: Question about the scrapbooking industrie in USA
Dear,
I live in Europe, the Netherlands (Holland) and started a small business in scrapbooking (www.scrapenjoy.com just in Dutch). BUT because I want the interest of the 'generations X and Y' and not a targetgroup (old) houswifes, I want some advices how the scrapbookingbusiness or perhaps better word is memory crafting? is developing in the crafts 'business' in the USA.
1) could you advise me on some hot names or hip brands in the states.
2) titels of good hip/modern/funky consumer books
3) all information is welcome (sites etc.).
So I want to develop myself more in a funky/modern/hip crafty way working with scrapbooks (but not in the dull way)

I am looking for some friendly and talented people who want to get together from time to time to discuss craft news and ideas, split fees for advertising in major magazines, and split tabling and travel expenses to some of the bigger craft shows. I have been running my crafting business (http://in-hope.com) for over 5 years now and I am very interested in networking with other people who are serious about their work and the success of their small business. I live in Blackwood, exit 56a on route 55 and I am really good about hosting events.

Post Subject: Has anyone dealt with the Snuggles Project?
I came across a charity while surfing the internet the other day. From what I can understand, it's a project where people all over the world crochet/knit/sew pads/cushions/mats for the cages of animals in shelters or foster homes. I've felt an increasing desire to try to help a charity somehow. I've been out of work for over a month now & I'm almost out of money. So, a monetary donation is out of the question. But I was thinking that between my love of crafting, my love for animals & my desire to help out, maybe this would be just the thing for me. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any dealings with this kind of thing so that I could get some information. Have a crafty day!

Post Subject: Need input, opinions, and ideas for 'newzine' column title
I am preparing to present a proposal to a regional newspaper/magazine in my area. The newzine iteslf is called "Heartland Women" and it features articles/columns about local events, health and wellness, business, investing, etc., all geared towartd a female audience. My column would be a monthly or bi-monthly (depending on my options) one featuring an array of topics that revolve around the home; cooking/shopping, crafting, decorating, budgeting & simple living, gardening, recycling, etc. It would be similar to Martha's newpaper column; new subjects each week, a few recipes, a craft tutorial, hints and tips. The only names I have come up with are "Heartland Home" which fits well but is a little too 'pre-Freidan' for my tastes, "The Domestic Dabbler" which is ok, I guess. My audience is not likely to be too "hip" so I have to keep it somewhat tame. "The Renegade Hausfrau" would probably require too much definition and I would probably either offend the homemakers, the feminists, or both. Any thoughts, suggestions, tips??

Post Subject: Urban Crafters needed for venues on Long Island
Howdy fellow crafty peeps:)
I am currently seeking out crafters and artists in the Long Island area who would like to be a part of monthly urban craft events. Live music will be incorporated with the crafting, to make for a full experience. These shows will be at varied locations and will be promoted each month in advance. If you would like some more information please check out my myspace page www.myspace.com/freedomtocraft
basically the idea is that most of the craft shows on long island are not very urban. What I am currently working on is setting up shows at local coffee shops and bars to showcase local artists, crafters and musicians. I think it would be a great opportunity to set up shop and sell your handmade goodies and have some fun. Please convo me or email me if you are interested at let me know what types of goodies you sell and what your price ranges would be.
creative people are what makes the world go round:)
thanks

Post Subject: AD: Julie's Jangles jewelry
Hi everyone!
I've been crafting for years now, but recently discovered my love of jewelry design, and I've run away with it! I use mostly vintage components, like pendants, charms, and beads, to create fun, pretty jewelry with a retro twist.
I just got my website up and running and want to get the word out. I am still working out some technical issues, ie. getting brighter, clearer pictures. Also, although I love the look of my website, I designed it on the iWeb program (for Macs), and can't integrate a shopping cart function. Therefore, I've set it up so the "buy" button e-mails me with the item the customer wants to buy, to which I reply with a Paypal invoice. The customer can then proceed to pay with credit card via Paypal. This isn't a favorable way for me be set up, but I really wanted to get my jewelry out there so I can sell some things and put money into a better website. I'm going to be doing craft fairs this summer, also.
Any feedback would be welcome and appreciated, be it on my jewelry and the site!

Post Subject: *Free- I put video's on my blog on how to do some crafts.
Hello!
This is Dora Renee' Wilkerson again. I just wanted to share some new things that I have made with you.
I took more hay twine (because I have so much of it..lol..) and made god leashes or lead ropes out of it. Yes, it's the rope type so it's not that soft on your hands (you can take a cotton material and work that instead and it would be much softer.) I posted pictures and a small video on how to do it here
http://bricoreandfamily.blogspot.com/2007_04_02_archive.html
I also have updated my blog (and I am going to keep adding video's on how to do different things) with some free video's. Like how to make pom pom's without a pom pom maker, how to make a lark's knot (by my 5.5 yr. old son at the time.), how to clean a horse's hoof (ok, I know that's off the topic of crafting but it's a video I did still.) and there is more.
I just love to share how to do things. I never say my way is the right way. It's just how I do things. I love to learn from other people and this is my way of saying thank-you to all the people who have taught me how to do something (by passing along the information.)
If, you'd like to check them out I have them post at
http://bricoreandfamily.blogspot.com
Along the side of my blog I have a list of what video's I have done.

Post Subject: Starting an online "Zine"
As many of you probably know.... I am in the process of opening an online boutique. I, in doing alot of thought, blogging, looking around online..... have decided that I would like to add a zine to my page. With all of the love and opinion that I have for fashion, hair, crafting, home decor, cooking, reading, and going to shows...... I thought it would be quite fun.
I have two questions regarding this revelation.....
#1- Any tips or suggestions from any of you who read online zines, run one, or know someone who does?? Things that bother you about some?? What you love about them?? Good sections of the zine to have??? Anything at all....
#2- I am pretty happy with my shoppe being very minimalistic. Mainly black and white with the actual work being the thing that stands out. Which is good because I am a programming dummy and need the templates and the copy/paste code for just about everything and I do want to do this all on my own (the building and running part. I would love to have guest reporters and editors for reviews and articles and such). I really want this to have a more eyecatching page once I add the Zine. What I want to know is if there are any computer programs that I can buy/downlad that would make building an attractive site easier for me where I can do it all visually and then it provides a code to place on the page?? I know.... I'm a dummy.... but with all of my other interests, I really don't have the time to devote to learning any programming languages.

Post Subject: Bath & Body Crafters Wanted
Hey Get Crafty Gals (and Guys)
I’m the editor of Craft Gossip’s Bath and Body section (http://bathnbody.craftgossip.com/). I would like to start promoting the handmade bath and body products of various crafters and artisans on a twice monthly basis, possibly more. There would obviously be no charge, as a craftperson myself, I’m just looking to promote other talented people. If you would like to submit your website/store for consideration, -please make sure you fit the following criteria:
-Products should be handmade by you. No third party items (Avon, Mary Kay, national brands, home party products, etc).
-Please have an online store/domain where your products can be purchased at a set price through secured shopping. If you don’t have your own domain, an etsy or similar store is fine. Unfortunately, I’m unable to accept auction or consignment websites.
-The majority of your products need to be bath/body related. If you mainly sell beaded bracelets and the occasional bath bomb, that’s great, but it’s not what we are looking for.
-Please have photos of each product you sell.
-The majority of Craft Gossip’s readers are in the United States, so I need to make sure they can actually buy the items featured. If you are outside the United States you should ship to the US, have a site mainly in English, and have prices available in US dollars.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, or have any questions, please email me at bathnbody(at)craftgossip(dot)com with a link to your site, a short bio and a brief statement telling me why your products are so wonderful! If I decide to feature you, I’ll reply to your email.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Take care and Keep Crafting,

Post Subject: i want to help artists and crafters!
hi!
my name is hollie....being an artist & crafter myself i know how hard it is to produce, market and have a life all at the same time! so i decided to start a business helping people do just that...well...you do the crafting, and have your life...and i''ll do your marketing and all the not-so-fun work! why? because i''ve been doing it for years for myself and other friends...and i enjoy it!
here''s a brief synopsis....please tell me what you think...i''m trying to hone it into something good...start in my immediate area and hopefully grow. right now i paint and work as a secretary on a horse farm....but i don''t want to be doing this forever. i''ve owned a gallery and a giftshop in the past...i have a bachelors in fine arts and have done graphic design for Prentice Hall and Whole Foods Markets...
anyway...let me know what you think!

hollie
\"my new website...
this is the link to my new webpage:
http://mysite.verizon.net/vzevevyp/arthelp/
it''s just a temporary solution ( with help from verizon because you get a free webpage when you get your internet thru them) until I can put together the money to get a real page made...but it''s a start!
please pass it on to anyone you think may be interested. also, i''m looking to build a portfolio for the business and put something on the \"testimonials\" page....so i need 2 volunteer to let me do all of the research and designing for them...i''ll do it all for free if you''ll write a testimonial for my page! if you decide you want to continue and you like the results we can work out a price for any print-outs, graphic design work done and show hanging!

Post Subject: New Crafty TV show looking to cast guests.
Hi Crafty Peeps,
My name is Cathie Filian and I produce and co-host Creative Juice on DIY and HGTV. Our production company is looking for young adult & teen crafters for a new "untitled" craft show. This show will be guest based - so you could be the star of the show. :)
We are seeking crafty guests from all over the USA and will begin the process with DVD submissions. The DVD's are not for air on TV they are for casting purposes. Fear not if you don't have access to a video camera. Just send a photo of yourself (big Smile) holding or showing off your handmade items.
Here are a few guidelines:
You should have high energy and great style. Show off your style - flaunt it!
Your crafts should be cutting edge current - think Urban Outfitters or MTV!
You can make anything from room decor, jewelry, clothing, soap making, knitted and crochet goods, lip balm, art, etc. The most important thing is that you know your stuff and can explain how you make it in a clear and fun way.
Video Guidelines:
1.Have high energy and be yourself. State your name, where you are from, how long you have been crafting and what your craft project is. Try to hold your project in your hand or have it next to you and briefly explain to us how you made it. You can show a step or two on how you made it you want.
2.Try to keep the camera as smooth as possible (using a tripod helps) and make sure you have lots of light so we can see you.
3.Fashion tips for the camera: Please don't wear prints, all black (even if you are goth), white or red. Tattoos, elaborate hair dos, and punky attire are just fine.
4.Videos should be no longer than 3 minutes and should be submitted on DVD only. Tapes cannot be viewed. On the DVD please include your name, your craft, email, city, phone number and age if you are under 18.
Photo Guidelines:
1.Have a big smile in the photo. Try to hold your project in your hand or have it next to you. You can include a picture of you at a sewing machine or at your work station or in the process of making something.
2.Fashion tips for the camera: Please don't wear prints, all black (even if you are goth), white or red. Tattoos, elaborate hair dos, and punky attire are just fine.
3.Photos should be digital, high resolution and should be submitted in print and on a CD. On the back of the photo and on the CD please include your name, your craft, email, city, phone number and age if you are under 18.
Please mail to:

Post Subject:
What is your craft of choice? (sewing, knitting, etc)
Mainly crochet, then knitting and a bit of sewing. When necessary I DIY around the house, paint jobs etc.
Why do you make your own clothes/jewelry/knit/craft?
Grew up with crafty parents. Just don't know any better then try to make your own things before you buy. It's in my nature.
What age did you start doing your craft? What age are you now?
Started around 6-7, now 45.
How do you afford to do this type of thing? Is this your main source of income? Do you have another job?
I'm a working girl. Crafting is mainly a hobby, but one that I try to make some extra money with. Materials are all reused (often curb found). Haven't spent any money on it in years.
Approximately how many hours a week do you spend crafting/knitting/sewing/making stuff?
About 14? Well, at least I think.
Do you prefer to buy handmade stuff (clothes, bags, etc)? why? No, I try to make my own first. What I can't make I try to find for free in the trash or I buy second/hand. Maybe I would buy hand made if I could afford it.
Do you have a crafting/sewing/knitting (whatever your craft is) group you meet with? How often? Why do you like it?
No, I like to work on my own.
Do you sell the things you make? Where do you sell them?
I sell on craft fairs (not often) and online (Etsy).
Where do you go online to discuss/learn/share your craftiness? How do these sites inspire you in ways that real life conversations don’t?
I visit a lot of those sites. Getcrafty, Craftster, HGTV and some local Dutch ones. I don't know a lot of crafters in real life, I\m a bit of a 'Einzelganger', so these sites are great to look at what other people make, get opinions about my designs and business advice.
What other crafty things do you do?
As said above, a bit of DIY around the house. And oh yes, almost forgot I fix old bicycles. (make one working one out of several crappy ones)
Is there a subversive element to crafting/knitting/sewing? A punk rock element? DIY smugness?
I used to be a punky in the eighties, but considered my craft as my 'soft side', not really a part of my punkiness. Though I did make a lot of black sweaters.
Right now it has more to do with environmentalism and anti-consumerism for me, as I refuse to buy new shiny materials and rescue stuff instead (thrown away knitwear to unravel) from the landfill.
What are your thoughts on this DIY/handmade phenomena? How do you think it relates to capitalism? Is it a need to “nest”?
Crafting has been big since the seventies or even sixties and for me it has never been gone. I think it's through the internet, more people communicating around it and more possibilities to sell stuff that it just looks bigger. Because isn't it weird that all large stores in Holland have stopped selling yarn and other supplies? They had loads in the eighties and even their own pattern books. Now I read that in the US Wall-mart is going that direction too...

Anyone have any ideas of careers in crafts? I would love to sell my crafts as a business, but that seems like a tough business to get into. I'm only a sophomore in high school, so I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life! I still want to go to college so what should I get a degree in if I love all types of crafting? I would love to make crafting my career but I have no idea where to start or what I would do! Any help would be awesome!

connections between the movement's organizers who have been primarily working in their
communities; Craft Congress attendees will share knowledge and experience, creating a
network and fostering the movement's growth.
Fifty participants from across the U.S., Canada, (and one from England), will attend this
gathering of leaders in the increasingly popular craft subculture. Many attendees will stay
in the homes of Pittsburgh hosts.
Local designer and organizer, Kpoene' Kofi-Bruce will be moderating a session on helping designers to sell - visit www.designleague.org.
Craft Congress is organized by the creators of Handmade Arcade,
(www.handmadearcade.com), Pittsburgh's first indie craft fair, which began in 2003. The
idea grew from the indie craft community that was forming across the country, primarily
via the internet. Countless websites, web stores, blogs and forums connect crafters. These
new crafters are mostly young women, in their 20's and 30's, who delight in combining
retro images with traditional craft techniques to produce practical items with an off-kilter,
humorous streak. There is no right or wrong. If anything, the movement is defined by its
eclecticism.
Knitting with Kool Aid dyed wool is new craft, using cocktail umbrellas to make lamp
shades is new craft, turning album covers into purses is new craft.
Fueled by internet relationships, the number of indie craft fairs across the U.S., has tripled
in recent years. Craft Congress' goal is to strengthen the indie craft community by sharing
ideas, experiences and discussing the future of indie crafting. Portions of the sessions will
be podcast for those who are not able to attend. Participants will discuss best practices
and explore ways to expand their markets, techniques for guerilla marketing, business
challenges, such as "big box" stores' attempts to rip off the diy aesthetic.
A recent survey of 100 indie crafters found that over 25% have recently switched from part
time crafting to full time. Almost 85% report their 2006 sales were up from 2005. They sell
via their own websites, (56%), at fairs (90%) and in brick and mortar stores (47%).

Post Subject: Just an update
It's finally up and running and I think, all the bugs worked out. Come by and sign up and start building.
You can use the gallery to build your own albums, submit articles containing links back to yourself, submit links to your own website, and pretty much present yourself and your product.
All legitimate crafting business is most welcome, as well as the Christian writer.
We're in it for the fellowship and networking, so help us grow.

Post Subject: New Web Portal
I've had my nose buried in all sorts of computer language stuff. The things, I get into.....
I've been building, crashing, rebuilding, screwing things up, rebuilding, and figuring things out until I'm cross-eyed. I think I finally have things up and running.
the site http://judysbookshop.com/nuke was supposed to be http://newportal.judysbookshop.com
I'm still working on that one. Both work but in the newportal you can't add new articles. The editor just isn't making the connection.
Anyway, :) it's a new portal for judysbookshop. In it are (or will be) articles on everything from crafts, crafting for business, ceramics, home and family to Christian links and articles.
What I've been asking folks to do, is to join up and help to fill out the empty corners. It's another network but with this one, you can submit your own articles/recipes/patterns etc, with links back to your own pages.
It's wide open for crafters, especially, for promoting your own products and websites. So come by, build your profile pages and submit your links etc.
Hopefully, if all keeps going well, I'll be ready to launch in 2 weeks

How’s this work?
After successful sign-up you will receive a pm on Get Crafty. This message will include further instruction.
Basically, the craft pageant is a “spin-off” (if you will) of a beauty pageant. Only rather than showing off our bodies and stuff like that, each round will consist of a requirement. For example, round one is most creative craft using only paper, glue, and scissors. You will then, have 9 days to complete each round. At the end of the 9 days, a new round will be posted and you will be expected to post your entry by midnight of the 10th day.
For each round, you will take a picture and post it in the Craft Pageant post on Get CRAFTY. In your reply/post, be sure to include the round. For instance: Your reply should be done like this:
1. Click reply at the top or bottom of the post.
2. In the subject line at the top, type in CP: Round 1. (be sure to include the correct round.
4. In the body text box, include (in this order):
Your entry ID number
{entry picture here}
The Name of your craft
A description/explanation of your craft
5. Wait for your score to be posted.
6. Scores will be posted by midnight of the 12th day.
Your crafts will then be judged on a scale of ten, recorded, and then final scores for the round will be posted next to your entry ID number. That way, no one else can know your score without knowing your ID number. This will be done for each round. Then, at the end of all five rounds, you will receive your total score. The top 5 will receive prizes.
Scores
Scores are determined by a scale of 1-10. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. Each round is given a score of 1-10. At the end of all five rounds, scores will be totaled. The top 5 will then be determined. You can also follow throughout the competition and watch who is in the running for top 5. The top 5 for each round will also be posted.
Entry ID number
Do not lose/forget this. Be sure to write it down or keep track of this attachment when it is sent back to you. It can be found beside "entry id number" in the bottom, right corner.
How do I add the picture to the reply?
Click the little Icon that says IMG
(your images have to be uploaded to the internet)
Insert the IMG URL. Then click the little icon that says IMG again.

Welcome! What brings you here? Crafts? DIY? Jean's Book?
At the bottom of every page is a link for "most popular posts" - that's a good way to start. I also suggest reading the Community Guidelines. And don't forget the blogs where members post about their completed projects, crafting experiences, and whatever else they feel like!

Post Subject: Artist Co-op in NKY
http://theflyingcat-coop.blogspot.com/
theflyingcat {AT} gmail {dot} com
Good morning everyone!!!!!!!
I am thrilled to announce the re-grand opening and organizing of The Flying Cat Artist Co-Op!
The Flying Cat is a dandy little store front in Mainstrasse Village in Covington Ky, we are looking to showcase independent artists and crafters in the store front, hold workshops and classes in the back spaces, as well as hold fund raisers (to benefit the co-op), and community crafting events in the NKY area. As most of you know I am organizing a "craft show" for the spring, this certainly is still on! But as a main focus for the NKY craft community The Flying Cat is hoping to get its doors open, and artists works in ASAP, The goal is to have opening day on Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving!) and a mini- gallery opening that night. As well as being apart of Covington's First Friday gallery hop.
We need you! If you are in the NKY area and are interested in being apart of this co-op please contact me ASAP, we are getting the space ready for opening, and can use the help if you can offer it, be it physically showing up to pitch in, donating cleaning supplies, or materials for displaying the art work, and most importantly the art and crafts of our artists!
Space is limited, so we will be looking into what options work as far as rotating stock (as a possibility) as well as show casing a particular artist monthly or bi-monthly. Funds are limited, as this is a not-for-profit artist co-op, we are all students or similar artisans who want to breath some life into the craft community in our area! Any contribution is welcome and greatly appreciated!
We are looking for artists who are interested in having their goods in our shop - if you are intersted please send me a few ph
