Post Subject: help a poor old boy out
HI! im not sure if this site is directly targeted for the crafty lady, but im a guy who''s in need of some help.
i just purchased this pendleton 100% virgin wool sweater and it smells like its been sitting in an elderly man''s wardrobe closet for years; like he spilt his ointment all over it. can you please tell me how to wash this sweater or at least get rid of the horrid smell. much appreciated!

Post Subject: Simple Book Binding for a homemade planner
Okay,
For the past few years I've been just printing out calendars from Microsoft Outlook and using them but lately they're just a hassle, so I decided to go buy a planner.
The one I was interested was cheap and simple but it was little and just not crafty enough. So like any crafty lady would do I thought, "I could just make my own."
My question is how do you do simple book binding? Nothing fancy. I can't just fold the pages and put them inside each other because then the months would be a screwed up so I had to fold each page in half and then connect them some how.
I have these grand ideas in my head and how I'm going to make this funky felt cover to go over but I don't know how to connect all the pages together.

Post Subject: Hiding UGLY ceiling fans?
Hey all. I need crafty-lady advice...
I live in a rented apartment which has no air conditioning, so there are two ceiling fans that are UGLY. I mean, we've all seen an ugly ceiling fan before I'm sure but the ones in my apartment take the cake. The little tulip-shaped sockets for the lightbulbs are made of *frosted* glass, and the fan is white with goldish (brass) trim. Yikes!
Now, in the summer obviously I'll be putting these babies to work cooling off the apartment. Aside from painting them (since it's a rental) do you have any suggestions for making them look just a little less hideous when they're not in use? Also, something non-flammable would be good since they're the primary light-sources for two rooms. Thanks!

Post Subject: embroidered portraits
okay, so... i am definitely new to embroidery, and this is probably a task that is beyond my reach for this christmas, but does anyone know a good way of going about making embroidered portraits? (or cross-stitched portraits?) i remember there was a thread awhile ago about someone asking for gift ideas... and a crafty lady suggested making a pillow embroidered with the gift-receiver's portrait. i am thinking of something similar, though maybe doing a portrait of her pet. i'm thinking there must be a way to scan a picture into my computer and then print it out as a graph... does anyone have more precise tips? thanks!!

thats a great idea! maybe if we have time we could get together before holidays that way we could possibly save money on crafts...maybe we could do both a Naked Lady Party and a Crafty Lady Party? I'm just shooting out ideas. I've been here for 2 years now and I don't have many friends so I just wanna make some friends so even if we just got together for lunch one day and knitted or did some other craft it would be fun!

Post Subject: 10 things every crafty lady needs -- home edition
hello all,
i'm putting together a list of things that every crafty lady should have at home to help with home decorating. it's for a magazine called "for me." the idea is to come up with a list of things specific to crafting a cool abode. i have a bunch of ideas, like murphies oil soap for cleaning up any used furniture you find on the street, a glue gun to bejewel book shelf, a collection of cool fabrics for making pillows, sewing curtains, whipping up a table-cloth, a sewing machine (so handy for home projects), power drill, etc.
But I need some more ideas...Any items you just can't live without for your home decorating projects? what am i forgetting? perhaps a staple gun? paint? vingear for removing stains?

Any time I've had a remotely cool or interesting job, the bosses were almost always Hemulens. And one was a Groke. She had the coolest job in the universe, head of the amazingly beautiful research library at a certain bay area filmmaker's ranch (is this still libel?), and she was the grandmother of all Grokes.
I always most admired Little My, but now I hope to be a good Moominmamma.
Snufkin- sorry about the late heads up on the archivist job. Let's pretend it was something awful, like organizing Arnold's cigars. I used to be on the Museum Curator 1 and some Historic Guide list, but it never worked out. I did some volunteer archival work at Fort Humboldt. It was fun and I liked the people.
Grokes or Hemulens?! I'm laughing because it's so true in this profession. We even had a crazy lady who'd come into one place I worked and one time my boss asked me what I thought of this woman and my response was "She looks like a fillyjonk." Being Moominmamma would be the best - she's definitely a crafty lady!
And that's okay about the State Archives. I've heard some pretty discouraging things about how they asked Maria Schriver for help with the Golden State Museum and she tried to hijack it into her Museum of Divas. Mostly because she's so bored with quitting her job and just being first lady :P.

yay. body modification is possibly the only thing i love more than arts and crafts.
first, my piercings: i used to have tons. i have been pierced a total of 25 times (i think) but i currently only have 11 piercings. they are: 2 x 1/2 inch lobes, 2 x helix, tragus, rook, inner conch 5 mm dermal punch (soon to get another one to even things out), labret, septum, nostril and tongue web.
as for tattoos:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v143/fotomatron/nufonia.jpg
my first tattoo, an image taken from kid koala's book "nufonia must fall" its on my leg and i'm currently thinking that i might make a collage of robots on that leg.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v143/fotomatron/birds.jpg
my other leg, image inspired by a cookie tin that was my grandmothers.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v143/fotomatron/gdlyrics.jpg
my birthday tattoos, lyrics from green day's newest album. they have been my favourite band for 11 years, they are pretty much responsible for the person i am today, i feel like permanently placing their words under my skin is the least i can do as thanks. even if i wasn't madly in love with green day, these lyrics mean a lot to me.
and on thursday, i'm going to be starting my crafty lady sleeve project. i'll be getting a sewing judy on my right arm right about the lyrics. i'm taking my sketches and ideas down to my artist thursday, so it will be done in the next couple of weeks.

Helleau.
I'm Megan, from Chicago. I'm 28, and flibbleflabble on every message board ever so I can always remember my sign in name and accompanying password.
I've always been a crafty lady, from a long line of crafty ladies, although now its more for fun instead of frugality. I'm not the greatest at sewing clothes, because fit can get so frustrating. I definitely dig knitting and crochet and sewing items. One of the coolest things I discovered is Hawaiian quilting--I just did a wall hanging, but it is so beautiful and symmetrical. I love projects that I can complete and take serious focus, like model cars, or lip gloss, or anything. I hemmorage cash in craft stores with good project kits.
I principally pay my rent through admin work (oooh, it has been too long), but the real plan is that I am an actor, writer, director, comedian. I do a lot of that on the side, so it's not a full pipe dream. my sketch group Brick
I'm single as of about 3.5 months after a super long relationship. This heh informs a lot of heh my posts. Mainly, I'm just dragging along in the search for some truth.
