Start a crazy quilt throw for your bed, or a stunning c.q. vest to wear for that New Year's bash!! This way you can also use up those other small pieces of fabric, lace, trim(and yes, some of us do save a 2 inch long piece of lace) and beads.

How does a quilt-a-long work exactly?
I am fairly new to quilting... though I am just about to finish my fourth one (that is what happens when work is slow). I am all about crazy quilts (much easier on my brain).
I am also trying to organize a crazy quilt square swap in "swaps"...
Let me know how it works I am very interseted to know more.

I'm like you, I just love crazy quilts!! All that variety. Life is just too short to only use 100% cotton fabric. I'd be thrilled to join the quilters on line. I used to do traditional pieced and appliqued quilts, but now it's almost all crazy quilts. My Great-Aunt Gertrude keeps giving me loads of nifty fabrics to add to my stash. 2006 is going to be the year for me to work on a full size crazy quilt for myself. I've done two others, as well as lots of smaller c.q. projects, but those quilts I gave as gifts. Quilters Unite!!

All the Judith Montano crazy quilting books. Wonderful instructions and incredibly inspiring just to look at. She also has some nice videos out as well. Titles--Crazy Quilt Odyesey, The Crazy Quilt Handbook, and several others. I own them all and they would be the first ones I would grab from the book shelves if I had to evacuate my apartment.

Doilies? Recently saw a tree skirt made like crazy quilt with fabric yo-yo's interspersed with doilies of different sizes. For a Goth look, you could dye doilies red, black, purple. or emerald and use velvet and taffetta yo-yo's.

Post Subject: fabric rems idea
Hey Cherriesontop (cute name, btw)
for all of those fabric rems:
easy craft: cut smallish shapes and poke the edges into a styrofoam ball with a popsicle stick (paint brush stem, cuticle stick...etc) like a crazy quilt. Fun for everyone over age 2.

Oooh, I like the knitting idea!
The 101 uses book has some funny ideas.
If you have been a bridesmaid a whole bunch of times, you could use all your dresses to make a victorian-ish crazy quilt. Do a little bit of embellishing embroidery and there you go.
The one on the left my friend made, and the one on the right I made. She used Aunt Grace fabrics and did little fabric origami pin wheels on some of the squares. I just made a crazy quilt log cabin.
Quilting is so much fun, I love picking out colors and matching them up. Denise Schmitt's quilts are so awesome! I totally have hero worship when it comes to her quilts.

You're getting a fat quarter of a lurex and rayon? fabric in a pkg from me. If I'd known, I would have sent a few more as insulation. I bought them to use as crazy quilt pieces for Christmas stockings. Which I will probably never make.
I like how you changed the orientation of the images from time to time. And the pocket and the rick rack can give you ideas for further embellishment. As in randomly sew ribbon or trim fragments over fabrics and then cut for a quilt. Swedish flag? and what's that other one? Not the jolly roger, the not quite union jack one...
This is the link to the photo montage I mentioned.

Hello Dawn,
Your gift wrap bags in velvet sound really cool. Have you seen a crazy quilt before? It might be interesting to do a bag like that, with different kinds of fabric and textures. I don't know...just an idea. I don't have a sewing machine right now, so I'm just admiring your inventiveness. :)
Yes, I TOTALLY understand what you mean about coming up with a project idea and it doesnt come out quite like what you had in mind. Are you familiar with tarot cards? Well, I had an idea to create my own deck of tarot cards - but my cards have not been coming out as intricate and as detailed as the tarot cards you see in the store. I feel very frustrated and sort of self conscious when I design my tarot deck, but I came up with this idea and I'm trying to see it through. But its frustrating because I can see it in my head and its not coming out that way on paper.
Using different papers when you gift wrap is fun. I think the silver on black sounds stunning, are you using rubber stamps or a metallic pen? I've done some metallic pen on black paper and have liked the effect. Its been a fun type of paper, not a fancy look but something fun for a friend's gift.
