So I was doing so online checking because I thought there was a tutorial on how to do this, perhaps on the old getcrafty but I couldn't find it. On one of the sewing forums I can across someone suggested cutting off the waist and using a ribbon to finish the raw waist edge.
Honestly though I'd take your pants to a tailor. Even though I sew sometimes I take in alterations to my dry cleaner, and then I have the time to work on creative sewing projects and not resewing the lining of a coat.
I'll keep looking for this tutorial though and if I find it I'll post the link.
