You can also use a cement water sealer to keep the rock in good condition.
You can purchase this at cement art places that sell painted geese. That's what they use for their painted garden art. I think it runs $10-$12 for a good bottle of it.

I am a plantaholic. I blame it on my dad. He hybridizes daylillies and is a judge in competitions. After he ran out of room at his house (tables with sun lamps and every empty window sill) he brought about 100 seedlings to my sunroom. We have more planted outside. so yeah. daylillies.
My favorites are conifers. They help me feel like my garden is still growing even in the dead of the winter that never ends. I'm also really into garden art. I made a labyrinth out of concrete last year and also a bunch of hypertufa objects.
Gardenweb.com is a great resource and the people are, for the most part, friendly. (be prepared for knowledge overload by the japanese gardening guys and show respect when asking a question, they deserve it)
