Post Subject: Welcome new co-editors!!
I would like to welcome Christy Petterson and Nancy Flynn as the two new co-editors of getcrafty.com! Effective immediately, Nancy and Christy will be taking over Jean's previous role on get crafty.
W had big shoes to fill. First of all, thanks to Jean for helping us by recommending Nancy and Christy. Based on the getcrafty.com’s members’ feedback, it was important for us to continue Jean’s vision for this website, and Christy and Nancy, both long time committed members of getcrafty.com, will be fantastic co-editors. I would also like to thank all of the community members who have offered to help and made suggestions over the past week. The caliber and commitment of members of the getcrafty.com community never ceases to amaze me.
I know many of you are familiar with Nancy and Christy, but I thought I would post some more information just to give you a bit of background on both Nancy and Christy.
Nancy Flynn has been a member of Get Crafty since October 2004, and has written the Dilettante Crafter column since August of 2005. She credits Get Crafty with inspiring her to quit her day job and follow her dream of a more creative life. Thanks to the inspiration and support of the Get Crafty community she has written a craft book for teens that will be published in 2007 and has another in the works for 2008. She also designs a line of handbags (which she sells in local boutiques and craft fairs in Northern California) named after her Get Crafty handle belle epoque.
Craftiness and Christy Petterson go way back. In the 80s she constantly had an in-the-works friendship bracelet pinned to her jeans. Today she creates clothes and accessories for her line called ‘a bardis’ and plans the Indie Craft Experience with two other Atlanta designers. The Indie Craft Experience is a craft market and fashion show that takes place twice a year with participants from all over the country. Christy has been a member of Get Crafty since November of 2003 and has written a column on the site called “how to by ceebee” since August of 2005. She also travels to shows in other cities to sell her creations and you can come meet her at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago (September 16 + 17) and Crafty Bastards in D.C. (October 1). www.abardis.com
Please join me in wishing all the best to Christy and Nancy!

Post Subject: community guidelines
hey there,
in response to some recent complaints, i have created a new community guidelines page, which you can see by clicking here: http://www.getcrafty.com/home_community.php
**********
The Forum and Blog Codes of Honor
Here are the rules we live by here.
Get Crafty is a place for sharing your creativity, thoughts, dreams, plans, craft project updates or what you ate for breakfast. That said:
Please do not use your blog as an advertising tool. Even if your company is super-bitchen crafty-tastic, the blogs are meant to build community, not businesses. (We are working on a tool that can help you sell your stuff online called etsy.com, due to go live this summer.)
Please refrain from pornography, unless it is highly crafty.
Please do not use a flashing, animated avatar. It hurts our eyes.
Please do not post super-duper huge photos. It takes too long to download.
Please post your comments on other people's blogs and respond to forums. It's a nice thing to do.
Please have fun.
Moderators
There are a number of amazing moderators. Please respect, honor and worship them.
Forum Moderators
We love sarabell and are waiting for her bio! I will update this soon.
Craftista maka10 likes to describe her life as: WONDERFUL!
Amanda Rybin (aka for_esme) is an undergrad studying Art History and English, and her favorite creative activities include writing, cooking, knitting, and thrifting.
Blog Moderators
Sunni Johnson (aka lecandypoprock) is a business student in Atlanta, GA, who has amateur skills in web design, screen printing and knitting and loves baby animals, kid power and Glass Candy.
Kate Kerr (AKA saffronwoman) is a Stay-at-home unschooling mom, a wife and an artist/craftster.
Please PM the moderators by their get crafty names if you have any questions or concerns.
Technical Concerns
If you are looking for technical answers to your questions, such as how to post photos or PM (private message) a get crafty user or moderator, please see our FAQ: http://www.getcrafty.com/faq.php

Post Subject: Glitterati/get crafty webring update: PLEASE READ!
Hi everyone. I am the manageress of the glitterati/getcrafty webring which has been around for a few years now, and it is major need of some updating folks!
If you have a site on there, please go to ring surf, log in with your password, and make sure your listing is updated! (If you need your password sent to you email me at: webring@fivegallonbucket.net.)
I need to have a current URL for you, a current email, and you probably want to have a current description of your site up too! Also I need everyone to double check their source code and make sure they have their id number on the ring code (where it says id= usually)
If you aren't a member of get crafty or glitter anymore then you won't be reading this, obviously, but if you happen to know that someone isn't participating on get crafty (or glitter) anymore maybe you could give me a heads up so that I can take them off the ring. I have considered keeping people on there as honorary glitterati but I have decided not to. I really think the webring can be a nice resource, and I know people often want to "shop glitterati" so I want to keep the ring from being bloated. So, that being said, I am only going to keep sites on the ring that have the code up! Every site that doesn't have the ringcode will be taken off the ring, even if I know you are around get crafty. If you put the code back on your site please submit it again and I will get you on there.
And of course, if this is the first you have heard about the Glitterati webring, and you want to be on it, please feel free to submit your site here. http://www.fivegallonbucket.net/glitteratti.html
You can submit your web shop, blog, what have you. I usually go through and put new sites on the ring once a month, so please be patient.
I think that is everything. I am, of course, cross-posting this over at Supernaturale.

Post Subject: online sketchbook to share & scarf drive!
Hey ladies!
I have been away from Get Crafty for soooo long (like the old days, old site). It is so nice to see everything so busy and happening around here! *smile* I am going to peek around more often again!
I just thought I would share my new illo & crafty blog, incase anyone is interested in peeking. I am throwing a scarf drive (all proceeds are going to my local woman's shelter (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada). Is anyone interested in knitting & donating a scarf to women in need? If so, feel free to contact me and I can tell you more info.
Hope I am not taking away from any other knitting for charity type drives on the go. I had a couple stitch and bitch nights last week that were super successful (I taught many gals to knit!)

Post Subject: Craftland Craft Show!
Just wanted to spread the word about the Craftland craft show to all of the crafty folk on get crafty. Check it out!
Craftland is back for its third glittery year!
Applications are now being accepted for the 3rd Annual Craftland, a contemporary craft show in Providence, Rhode Island featuring an eclectic assortment of fine crafts and cutting-edge, quirky handmade items. Proceeds from Craftland benefit New Urban Arts www.newurbanarts.org , a free art studio program for Providence high school students. Craftland operates for five weeks in November and December at a retail space in Providence, Rhode Island and sells unique and unusual handmade items on consignment. Artist need not be present to sell their work. Artists drop off or ship their work to Craftland and Craftland displays and sells the work – like a consignment store or gallery. Artists receive 60% of the retail price on items sold, 30% goes to the cost of running the show, and 10% goes to New Urban Arts.
To download a Craftland Artists Application which includes all of the nitty gritty details please visit www.craftlandshow.com
Applications are due by September 10, 2004 POSTMARK DEADLINE
Most of the artists participating in Craftland live in New England, but we also accept work from artists throughout the United States. To keep Craftland fresh and irresistible, we seek a range of people to participate. Whether you have participated in craft shows before, are an art school student or have made nifty things but never sold them, we want to hear from you! Over 100 local and far away artists participated in Craftland 2003 -- teenagers to grandmothers, professionals to first-timers. We encourage artists to view Craftland as an opportunity for whimsical craft exploration. Some artists have created limited-edition new work exclusively for Craftland, and others have experimented with techniques outside their usual work (painters who made puppets, jewelers who made holiday ornaments, and chefs who made magnets). Other artists sell the prints, jewelry or books they produce year-round.
Craftland is about the love of making things, the pleasure of having one's own creative practice and the celebration of all things crafty. And it supports a great cause! Please share this information with anyone you know who might be interested in participating this year.

So I bought one of those dolls that "pee pee's" when you give it a drink. I bought it from a thrift store so it has no clothes and some minor marks on its head. I want to get crafty(and funny) with it and give it to my best friend for her birthday. Any ideas would be very much apreciated.

Post Subject: Get Crafty Newsletter On The Way To You
Hi Craftistas
Nancy and I are going to send out a Get Crafty Newsletter today via email. As many of you remember the last time we sent one out there was a technical glitch and many people got it numerous time. We think the problem has been fixed but we've been so scared to try it again because we understand that nobody likes multiples. We've waited about six months but have decided to give it another whirl. We just wanted to forewarn you. If you see trouble again please post here.
Crossing Our Fingers,
Christy & Nancy

Post Subject: Check out the Get Crafty Wiki!
See that new tab over to your right? The one that says "wiki"? Click on it and join us in the exciting launch of the Get Crafty Wiki! We hope it will be the best craftista resource on the internet for any crafty query.
It will start out pretty bare (since all of us are responsible for adding new information), but I know we all love to share what we've learned through trial and error, and the wiki will be the perfect place. So get in there, look around, add information about your areas of expertise, and let us know if you have any questions!
I have reservations about buying from Amazon and these other conglomerates because of what they do to the independent local people, and I'm not sure if buying from them undercuts Jean's take from book sales too...but if you just can't wait to get your hands on all the great ideas in the book you might want to consider it.
It's so hard to have a social conscience in this overly consumerist world!!

Post Subject: Bath & Body Crafters Wanted
Hey Get Crafty Gals (and Guys)
I’m the editor of Craft Gossip’s Bath and Body section (http://bathnbody.craftgossip.com/). I would like to start promoting the handmade bath and body products of various crafters and artisans on a twice monthly basis, possibly more. There would obviously be no charge, as a craftperson myself, I’m just looking to promote other talented people. If you would like to submit your website/store for consideration, -please make sure you fit the following criteria:
-Products should be handmade by you. No third party items (Avon, Mary Kay, national brands, home party products, etc).
-Please have an online store/domain where your products can be purchased at a set price through secured shopping. If you don’t have your own domain, an etsy or similar store is fine. Unfortunately, I’m unable to accept auction or consignment websites.
-The majority of your products need to be bath/body related. If you mainly sell beaded bracelets and the occasional bath bomb, that’s great, but it’s not what we are looking for.
-Please have photos of each product you sell.
-The majority of Craft Gossip’s readers are in the United States, so I need to make sure they can actually buy the items featured. If you are outside the United States you should ship to the US, have a site mainly in English, and have prices available in US dollars.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, or have any questions, please email me at bathnbody(at)craftgossip(dot)com with a link to your site, a short bio and a brief statement telling me why your products are so wonderful! If I decide to feature you, I’ll reply to your email.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Take care and Keep Crafting,
Jodi Bumgarner
Bath and Body Editor, Craft Gossip

Post Subject: interesting article on crafting
this is in the new issue of an crafts industry newsletter (creative leisure news):
"There's a new trend emerging in craft design and it's not cute. It's fueled by a younger demographic, consumers looking to express their individuality rather than following preset rules, and they prefer a more sophisticated look. In other words, no smiling bunnies. Examples:
1. Two craft stores that are appealing directly to this new demographic are the Spark Crafts Café in suburban Boston (www.sparkcrafts.com) and Urban Arts + Crafts in Kansas City (http://urbanartsandcrafts.com).
2. Craftster (www.craftster.org). The site says, "Craftster is a forum for people who love to make things but who are not inspired by scrapbooking with die-cut teddy bears, cross-stitched home-sweet-home plaques, wooden boxes with ducks in bonnets painted on...."
3. Scrapbooking may be catching on, too. SOHO Publishing put out a call for "edgy and unconventional" layouts for a book, Scrap and the City ("for the thousands of stylish city-dwelling and hip country-living women who are turned off by scrapbooking’s good girl reputation"). For info, call Paul Gambino at 917-916-0521 or email gambinopaul@aol.com ... Darcy Miller, the editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings, has published Our Wedding Scrapbook. "Aesthetically, what Miller does has little to do with the current scrapbooking trends and the kitsch-heavy industry it has spawned," wrote W magazine.
4. Get Crafty (www.getcrafty.com.) For insight on this new type of crafter, click on "Jean's Manifesto."
5. The Mar. 7 edition of Time, reported in CLN's previous issue, also gives a good analysis of the trend. Visit www.time.com and type Pretty Crafty in the search engine.)
6. Media. A new HGTV series, Crafters Coast to Coast, (www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_hcc2c) premiered recently and features a wide variety of non-cute projects. "Rather than bring artisans into our studio to share their ideas for viewers to try at home, we visit their homes and studios-wherever they may be. The result is a show that goes beyond "how-to" as we see how these crafters' personalities, lives, and communities influence their work." The projects are described as "cool," "hip," and "unique." (The series is aired almost daily at a variety of times. Check your local listings.) Notice the number of quick camera shots; it's crafts for the MTV generation.
(Note: HGTV is looking for designers to appear on the series. Email a recent picture of yourself smiling, images of your projects, contact info, location, and short bio to CoastToCoast@wellergrossman.com.)
This trend is having its effect on almost every product category. The yarn companies spurred the incredible resurgence of knitting and crochet by introducing new, stylish designs, but the changing demographics are affecting other categories, too.
Michelle Temares, one of the industry's best and most thoughtful designers, says, "I believe that this turn to individuality and self expression has been a significant contributing factor to the decline of craft categories such as counted cross stitch and decorative painting and the growth of categories such as scrapbooking and altered art. The former value and emphasize rote sameness while the latter recognize, encourage, and structurally support individual creativity and expression.
"Industry players who can recognize, synthesize, and decode these attitudes and trends will have the advantage in capturing new market share.""

Craft Pageant
Requirements:
• Must be ready for fun
• Must have access to a digital camera or a way to put pictures on the internet (you could use a disposable camera or film camera and get them developed and put onto a disk, I’ve done this before. This way could get expensive though as there are 5 rounds.)
• Must be at least 13 years of age.
• If 16 years of age or younger, be sure to have parent’s permission before entering.
• May be either gender

Email address____________________________@___________.com
Age______________ (not required unless you are 16 or younger)
Gender_________ (voluntary information)
Address:
How’s this work?
After successful sign-up you will receive a pm on Get Crafty. This message will include further instruction.
Basically, the craft pageant is a “spin-off” (if you will) of a beauty pageant. Only rather than showing off our bodies and stuff like that, each round will consist of a requirement. For example, round one is most creative craft using only paper, glue, and scissors. You will then, have 9 days to complete each round. At the end of the 9 days, a new round will be posted and you will be expected to post your entry by midnight of the 10th day.
For each round, you will take a picture and post it in the Craft Pageant post on Get CRAFTY. In your reply/post, be sure to include the round. For instance: Your reply should be done like this:
1. Click reply at the top or bottom of the post.
2. In the subject line at the top, type in CP: Round 1. (be sure to include the correct round.
4. In the body text box, include (in this order):
Your entry ID number
{entry picture here}
The Name of your craft
A description/explanation of your craft
5. Wait for your score to be posted.
6. Scores will be posted by midnight of the 12th day.
Your crafts will then be judged on a scale of ten, recorded, and then final scores for the round will be posted next to your entry ID number. That way, no one else can know your score without knowing your ID number. This will be done for each round. Then, at the end of all five rounds, you will receive your total score. The top 5 will receive prizes.
Scores
Scores are determined by a scale of 1-10. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. Each round is given a score of 1-10. At the end of all five rounds, scores will be totaled. The top 5 will then be determined. You can also follow throughout the competition and watch who is in the running for top 5. The top 5 for each round will also be posted.
Entry ID number
Do not lose/forget this. Be sure to write it down or keep track of this attachment when it is sent back to you. It can be found beside "entry id number" in the bottom, right corner.
How do I add the picture to the reply?
Click the little Icon that says IMG
(your images have to be uploaded to the internet)
Insert the IMG URL. Then click the little icon that says IMG again.

Post Subject: Form Letter
So, let's work up a brief little reminder for members who weigh a little too much on the advertising side of the scales.
Here are the community guidelines:
http://getcrafty.com/home_community.php
Get Crafty is a place for sharing your creativity, thoughts, dreams, plans, craft project updates or what you ate for breakfast. That said:
Please do not use your blog as an advertising tool. Even if your company is super-bitchen crafty-tastic, the blogs are meant to build community, not businesses. (We are working on a tool that can help you sell your stuff online called etsy.com, due to go live this summer.)
I was thinking something along the lines of:
Hello,
The Moderators want to remind you that Getcrafty welcomes and appreciates your participation, but that your blog posts and/or forum posts tend toward too much advertising and too little community participation. We know that our members are interested in crafty businesses, but you only turn them off by not engaging in the community in any way other than advertising. This is just a gentle reminder, not a warning or an ultimatum.

Can you be more specific, like do you know in what way it would look different?
I'm wondering if we should just get rid of the pictures section. How does everyone feel about that? It might be better just to start a Flickr pool which might drive new people to Get Crafty (or even bring back some old people).

Post Subject: Any craftistas in San Diego, CA?
I just read the Get Crafty book, and I realize I need to surround myself with inspiring people with crafting and artistic interests. Does anyone know of any get togethers in the San Diego area? I don't have a house to start my own group (I'm a traveling pet sitter) so I need to join someone else's group. I figured asking around is the best way to start.

The message boards on Get Crafty used to be called Glitter. Then Glitter sort of spun off and went to the new site, Supernaturale. Get Crafty was relaunched with new boards, these. Some of us fondly refer to the Old Glitter as the one that used to be on Get Crafty - which was different than the current Glitter.

Post Subject: NYC/Tri-State quilters, designers who sew
Hi Craftistas,
My friend Dan, an interior designer, has a client who wants to commission 3 quilts made from Marimekko dresses from the 60s and 70s. The designs would be modern and funky. Machine-quilting is preferable because, well, they'd like them done by Christmas. Since my sewing skills are severely lacking, I offered to open it up to the Get Crafty community and he thought that was wonderful idea.
I'll answer as many questions as I can in this thread, but I have no money details except to say that you would be paid. If you are interested, PM me and I'll pass your info along.

hi guys! thanks so much for your concern for get crafty.
i guess i got through to point of impact this week via pleading emails ... they have been working on the site today and have decided to move it to another server tomorrow. all of these crazy technical problems stem back to the server switch they made at the beginning of the year. hopefully switching to a more reliable server will fix a lot of what's been going on.
the site will be down part of tomorrow sept 26.
i just wanted to let you guys know. once things are working smoothly i'd love to chat with all of you and hear if you have ideas for improving the site ... are there forums that just aren't necessary for instance?

Post Subject: Brag (again!): New Job #2!
How dare I post two brags within one week! :)
After volunteering my DJ services to the Boys and Girls Club for over 8 years, I was hired today to teach arts and crafts after school. What is weird about this is that I just had a dream this weekend that I had a craft show at their new gym annex!!!!!! *start Twilight Zone music*
It doesn't pay much and I plan to just put the money back into the club for the supplies I will need. They have the regular types of supplies like schools get(glue, construction paper, crayons, markers, etc), but I plan to turn the place upside down with more fun, hip crafts. My biggest thrill is that I get to have a bulletin board or two to decorate!!!! I haven't done that since I taught preschool! Title of my first bulletin board design: "Get Crafty!!!"
So I have my new coffee house job 3 hours a day 3 times a week or so and then from 3-6 I teach arts and crafts! Oh, and let me not forget my DJ gigs on the weekends! Haha! I'll never complain I am bored off my butt again!
I start Wednesday, so I need to come up with projects for this week and then Friday I need to turn in my plan for the next week.

Hello all! I am new to Get Crafty, but I already adore it! I got here because I sort of accidentally started a jewelry business (long story), which I'm calling Jewelry By Jessica. Feel free to drop by and take a gander (I just have a freebie Web site for the time being) at www.geocities.com/jessicajewelry I'm doing my first handmade bazaar in a couple of weeks, I'm in one local retail store, and my stuff has also been accepted at Plain Mabel and at Cut + Paste, so it will be available at both places very soon! I'm really excited to find such a great community of fellow crafters on the Web, and hope to learn from/share ideas with/buy cool stuff from all of you!!

Did somebody mention my name??? Yep I'm in Reno and have a few connections with the crafty folks in that town. One of the owners of La Bussola used to be a Get Crafty poster, but I don't think she comes around here anymore. However they are an excellent resource for crafty happenings in that town - the SnB group I belong to happened because I kept bugging them for knitting classes and we all decided to keep hanging out together after the class ended.
Anyhow, feel free to PM me as you get closer to your arrival. I'm not a mom but I'd be happy to meet up with you to chat about craftiness and where to find it in Reno :).

hi sublime stitcher! good to see you here!!! and hi jean, always happy to see you post!!! :)
i thought rob's article was great. i've had a chance to talk to him on several occasions and i think it's great to have someone who is not a member of our community take such an interest and do such a great job of chronicling the whole thing.
i think it's amazing the impact (i agree, some good and some bad) that etsy has had. i look at the launch of etsy as a real turning point. i'm not sure i can explain it, but things feel different now. like before etsy the whole thing seemed a little underground and now it is not. i see the pros and cons to both.
my husband was out of town for a gig this weekend and met some crafters. he was appalled that they had heard of etsy but not get crafty. i tried to explain to him that etsy has just blown up so much, but he protested that get crafty has been around for so much longer. i share this because 1) it's sort of funny 2) wow, i've trained my husband well! and 3) it is both amazing and disconcerting to me that etsy could have become something so huge so quickly!!!

Get Crafty Community Guidelines
The Forum and Blog Codes of Honor
Here are the rules we live by.

Post Subject: Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself
Hello!
My name is Kristi and this is my first official post in the forums! I learned about get crafty through my sister, the AMAZING Jennifer of Textile Fetish.
I am married with 4 cats. I perform with a couple of local theatre companies, enjoy papercrafts like making cards, collages, and origami, love reading, and adore food and drink of all sorts!
I have slowly come to realize the fact that I am not truly happy and truly MYSELF unless I'm involved in some kind of creative pursuit, whether it be acting in a play, making a birthday card out of an old grocery bag and rubber cement, or cooking Thai curry. I am not living an honest life if I don't expend the effort to live creatively, which I admit I have not always done.
So . . . I have made a commitment this year to be unafraid to live life to the maximum, to create joy and art out of the everyday. I want to say THANK YOU to the folks who post to this board, to Jean (your Editor's Letter is what really got me moving), and to my fabulous sister, all of whom have inspired me to get off my ass and . . . get crafty!

Post Subject: ceramic tile countertops, floors
hi there,
not sure if I am posting this to the correct forum ... and anyway this is almost a home-reno project so I hope it is appropriate for get crafty! If someone doens't think so please let me know...
My BF and I have recently aquired a chalet in the country. It hasn't been inhabited for afew years, and was built pretty cheaply in the beginning, so we are currently in home-improvement mode. As we both are classic renters, this is kind-of fun, and we want to experiment and make this space really "ours" ...
We need to entirely gut the kitchen and do new cabinets, floors, countertops, and maybe even walls (what is there now is just plywood and wallpaper - ick). We are "considering" ceramic tile countertops, and tiling the kitchen floor, bathroom walls and bathroom floors ourselves.
Has anyone doen this successfully? Can anyone recommend a good book or guide? We don't mind investing some elbow grease in this project, but not if it's gonna look like crap in the end ...

Post Subject: Tsunami relief quilting project
Hey everyone,
I have been reading about an international quilting project that will help raise funds for the tsunami relief efforts in south Asia. It is:
http://kukulla.tripod.com/tsunami/tsunami.html
Basically you make one square for a quilt and send it to the coordinator, in Spain. You can make it out of anything fibery, it can be knitted or sewn or felted or otherwise made up. There are some pictures of finished squares already over here:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/66915032@N00/pool/
This totally seems like the kind of thing Get Crafty people would contribute to, so if it's already been posted here, forgive me.
Anyway, I'm going to contribute a square shortly. The deadline is February 15.

Full disclosure, I am an html idiot. I have been fiddling with very simple design, and cannot figure out how to make text attached to a link NOT be underlined. for example, if i want to link the words "get crafty" to a this site, i wouldn't want "get crafty" to look like this: get crafty, but rather look normal and only obviously be a link when clicked on.
Am I making sense at all? I swear I've looked this up in HTML for dummies and can't find it, perhaps that is how dummy a question it is. Computer peeps out there, can you help?

Pudding, I am in no way "official" help, but I played around with your link and think I've discovered the problem. Look at the Flickr URL, all the way at the end. I think the issue is the ?v=0 at the end of the URL. I expect the bulletin board software used here at Get Crafty needs your image links to end in .gif or .jpg (.png, too, if they're superhip).

Post Subject: The Crafty Chica rides again
Dear Mrs. Crafty Chica (she's married, y'all, so I can call her Mrs.) :)
I was in the library the other day, checking out the crafty books, and guess who's book I picked up? Yours, of course! It's the "The Crafty Diva's Lifestyle Makeover". That is the cutest, funnest darn book dedicated to the teen craftistas I have ever seen! I couldn't help laughing at the little references that I'm sure your daughter helped with. I loved your reference to the Sims. Hehe! And how cute were the crafts? The cutest! Now, I know that you don't make much profit from a book being in the library (except for the exposure that you get), but in my mind, being in the library means that you've made it. :)
Then today, in my Link Latte from Marney Makridakis over at Artella Words and Art (http://www.artellawordsandart.com), guess who's website she's showing off? Yours again! For anyone who hasn't checked out this fabulous resource, she's at http://www.craftychica.com/index2.php. I am saturated with the Crafty Chica, and I'm loving it! I'm gushing a bit, I know, but it's because I know you from here. It's just wonderful to see a person from Get Crafty who has "made it", ya know (although I know you were already successful before Get Crafty got started)? It gives me inspiration that someday, I too may be able to turn this wonderful pastime of mine into a profitable business. You rock!

I know a lot of you sell your wares on etsy. Just thought you might like to know that it is featured in a special shopping section in today's USA Today, under the headline "Get Crafty."

That's pretty good exposure. And I love the new look of the site!

Post Subject: Share your knowledge!
I’m a Master student in Experience Economy at a Danish University. I’m working on the final Master project right now questioning about how knowledge is shared in sub economic networks like the crafter community. I have this thesis that the fundamental idea behind the crafter community is based on sharing - sharing ideas, sharing knowledge and information.
Therefore my questions are:
1. As a member of Get Crafty what was your personal motivation to join a crafter network?
2. Are you a professional crafter (professional = selling your craft products, having your own shop or workshop) or is crafting ”just” a hobby for you?
3. How do you use the website getcrafty.com? What do you use on the site?
4. How often do you visit the site?
5. Can you qualify the relation that exists between the members of getcrafty.com?
6. How would you qualify the type of network that is being developed on threw this site?
7. What is the main energy that drives people to meet here?
8. Do you have any comments on the idea of sharing crafter knowledge?
9. Do you share your work on the website? And if so: why do you share your work?
10. Have you made friends/connection on getgrafty.com that you came to meet in real life?
I do hope somebody would have the interest and time to answer my questions.
Thank you! : )

1. As a member of Get Crafty what was your personal motivation to join a crafter network?
I was an art major in college, and since I have graduated, I feel as though I have no one to bounce my ideas off of. It is nice to be involved in a group with similar interests who will comment on work that you accomplish.
2. Are you a professional crafter (professional = selling your craft products, having your own shop or workshop) or is crafting ”just” a hobby for you?
Definitely somewhere in between the two. I do not own a shop, but I do occasionally sell my items... mostly I use my "crafting" as gifts for loved ones. I have done commissioned paintings, though.
3. How do you use the website getcrafty.com? What do you use on the site?
My favorite part is the "share a craft" forum - getting new ideas keeps me out of a rut.
4. How often do you visit the site?
Daily
5. Can you qualify the relation that exists between the members of getcrafty.com?
Perhaps it is because I am new, but I haven't personally spoken with anyone on the site. I think it is just a general forum where people can bounce ideas off random people.
6. How would you qualify the type of network that is being developed on threw this site?
I think this is the same thing as above.
7. What is the main energy that drives people to meet here?
Everyone has the same interests - no one is critical unless you ask for it specifically.
8. Do you have any comments on the idea of sharing crafter knowledge?
It is really hard to make a living because we are so share-happy, but I love it... it is a great way to make friends and meet people.
9. Do you share your work on the website? And if so: why do you share your work?
I have a blog that I post photos of the things I have accomplished. I do it mainly to show my family what I have been doing in my free time, but it is nice for other people to be able to see the hard work I have done as well.
10. Have you made friends/connection on getgrafty.com that you came to meet in real life?
Not yet.

Hi, Libby!
Welcome! I'm kind of new myself. I used to post on Get Crafty's old forum, Glitter, but took a break for a long while and now I'm BACK with a new name. :) I can tell you right now that this is so fun. I used to stay up late in my dormroom reading threads instead of doing my homework! The people here are so funny and inspiring.
So, Florida, bless your heart - have you had to evacuate now for, what, the 3rd time? Or was Orlando safe? If you ever need to flee west, Austin TX (my town) makes for a divine hideaway...
I am trying to gain a green thumb myself. Something on a small scale though, like potted herbs I can keep in the windowsill. In the meantime I write and relentlessly decorate the apartment.
Hope I get to read more of your posts in the future. Ciao!

I have a stack of them, the Stitch n Bitch collection is good, and so are: Super Crafty, Bazare Biare, Get Crafty - Hp Home Ec, Kitschy Crafts, the Craftsters Guide to Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts and the Complete Guide to Paper Crafts. My personal favorite is: Alterna Crafts. The Ready Made book is good though I do not have it in my collection at this time.
I have a few others but they are mostly specific to quilting and knitting.

i was so upset to see get crafty shut down, too - the people who ran it and shut it down have set up their own site: www.supernaturale.com - they've got some of the get crafty patterns, and one of them is the t-shirt undies - the address is http://www.supernaturale.com/howto/fibre/tshirtundies/index.html - good luck with exams and the undies!! :-)

Post Subject: Crafty/Foodie/Lovely Video Blog
I wanted to be sure I had a few episodes under my belt before sharing it with the beloved Get Crafty community, but I have a video blog! It's about crafts, food, style, and living big on a little. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Welcome to Get Crafty! You'll enjoy it here, it's a great site.
I've seen your blog site a few times, I love your amigurimi creations, and certainly plan on purchasing some patterns from you once my crochet skills improve.
Have you been in Ontario for long? If not, welcome to Ontario too!

i'm a little confused...so, the old getcrafty shut down on this address, and moved to supernaturale, basically..but they said the glitter boards would be up..and now, there's this new, (very cool, btw) get crafty, with great message boards-but no glitter. do you have any idea where it all went?

Vanilla sugar is easy. You split a vanilla bean down the middle and stick it in the middle of the sugar. I like turbinado sugar best for this. The sugar is great for decoating cookies or putting in coffee.
Why don't you add this to the Get Crafty Community Book?

Post Subject: interesting article on cool crafters
i'm sorry,i accidently posted this on share a craft, i meant to post here...
this article is in this week's creative leisure news (a big crafts industry newsletter). i think its funny that they call it a NEW trend:
