Thanks for sharing that. I wish that feeling of not-taking-life/loved ones-for-granted was something that you could cling to everyday - and not just feel when you have a tradegy or a scare, or such as what you experienced. This is something I struggle with. Because I have SO MUCH to be thankful for (namely a loving husband and two great, healthy kids - that were no problem to conceive) and yet so often I let little things get to me.............

Park clean up, recycle glass/paper, plant a community garden (start with the seed in a cup), find someone in another country to do the pen-pal exchange with, UK, Australia, as far away is interesting but they'd have to speak english, wait.... will tiny kids go for this? Kids like instant gratification....
OH! grow sprouts for snack Friday. A little work to do each day, and done in a week, also gets the kids to think about what is needed to grow healthy kids/plants and each week you could try something different, lentl, alfalfa, radish, etc... and you could transfer some of the sprouts to paper cups for the community garden....
